I get kind of tired of hearing that they “risk” excommunication. Call me when one a actually gets kicked out.

Why excommunication in Poland but not the United States? Something different about the Catholic church in America?

Polish bishops are reminding Catholic politicians that if they support abortion, they risk excommunication from the Church. Hopefully the bishops in Poland are more faithful than the bishops in America are [*cough*Kennedy*cough*Pelosi*cough*Kerry*cough*].

The church has done nothing for 40 years - why start now.

Agreed. It would be great to see the AmChurch get some backbone and at least refuse communion to Giuliani, Pelosi, and the entire Kennedy family.

Actually - they automatically get “kicked out”, when they support abortion. Their excommunication doesn’t have to be announced. It just happens in such a case.

Doubtful any excommunication will ever happen. I am really losing faith in the Church after it extended graces to Kennedy.

It has?
Well, maybe he had confessed his sins before he died, and regreted them.
If not - poor guy - it must be really hot down there.

That's right. For instance: according to canon law, a person who
procures a completed abortion automatically excommunicates himself.Pro-abortion politicians may not have explicitly procured an abortion, but in a way they may have helped to procure thousands of them.
This is why clergy say 'risk excommunication' - because the language of Latae_sententiae doesn't say 'pro-abortionist politician' - it says 'procure an abortion'.
To: lizol
What risk???
Where in America are the ex-communications of abortion advocates actually happening???
To: agere_contra
Sorry, I should have added In my opinion this is why clergy say 'risk excommunication'
To: lizol
Oh yeah, in POLAND, maybe. Let me know when it happens here.

If they procure an abortion - they are excommunicated
right then and there.
Latae sententia excommunications happen without an announcement in the papers.
To: agere_contra
No one enforces that.
The priests aren’t refusing anything to the abortion advocates.
To: TheFourthMagi
You’re right, they face NO earthly consequences for their promotion of abortion.
And as such, there is no negative incentive or example for others in the church about what is right and wrong on this issue.
