They sometimes close stations for ‘security’ reasons. I.e., the station on the Mall if there’s a huge event there. LOTS of stations during the Inauguration.
Even with a significant turnout next Saturday, I don’t expect any stations to be closed for that reason, but they could be closed just for track work, so it’s best to check before heading out, especially for those from out of town who don’t know the routes that well.
I think the best advice is simply leave plenty of time.
The March starts at 11:30. We’ll probably head over to the Sheraton around 9am to meet up with other Freepers.
If we skip the March, we’ll probably try to get to the Capitol area by 11:30 (rally starts at 1pm).
I would think for THIS event you are giving yourself enough time. I am assuming a turnout somewhat the size of the annual pro-life marches or perhaps a little larger, tho I don’t know what the projections are.
But, lemme jes say ... at the not-particularly-HISTORIC inauguration of GWB (’01) it took over an hour and a half between the crowd and police control to walk 3 blocks up Constitution.
So I am merely suggesting folks keep an eye on the actual logistics of getting around town on that day. If it were me, I’d count on walking or taking Metro. Wouldn’t even consider driving or trying to find a cab.
We've got at least 3 busses coming from Chattanooga, TN. I'm sure that larger cities will have more.
My husband, brother in law, and I are going up to DC from Upstate SC. Our local talk radio station, News Radio WORD, organized a bus trip to DC on the 12th. They filled 8 busses and a neighboring county filled 3 busses. I’ve heard churches participating and filling their busses and vans going to DC. This is Real America with real issues...I’m so proud!
Sounds like lots of buses!
I might start thinking about huge backups at the bus drop off points. Others here can advise (I’ve never been), but you might try to find out about parking farther out and taking the metro in.

Tea Parties and town hall meetings held around the country this year have empowered a growing number of Americans outraged by the bail-outs, government take-overs, and taxpayer boondoggles gone rampant in Washington, D.C. Yet, too often the protestors have been dismissed as being merely anti-government, when in fact they are pro-liberty. Why are they pro-liberty? In this workshop, we will explore those reasons and explode the myth that the protests are just angry manifestations of reaction. We aim to give Tea Party attendees crucial tools to transform the political landscape and become more effective champions for liberty. Topics of discussion will include the founding ideals of America, moral arguments for defending capitalism, and strategies to fight and win the war of ideas. The event will also feature film clips and Q&A.
*Following the workshop, attendees are invited to a social Bureaucrash Happy Hour at Bullfeathers on Capitol Hill, 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
We are heading up Thursday night in hopes to beat the traffic and leaving Sunday night or Monday morning. I’ve heard but cannot verify that some of the busses from the southeast are meeting up to convoy into DC. Would love to see that!
I will be there. The group I am going with sold out the original bus 4 days after open it up. They now have two full buses running. The other group that is going from my area also has two buses running.
I am not a Mob.
I am an American.
Speak up American
I’m going. My back is out, sitting is no fun. So it’s muscle relaxers and pain killers. I don’t have the money to do the FReeper convention, but I am staying at the Sheraton.
While getting the aforementioned chemical enhancers my doctor told me he and a buddy are going to marathon drive to DC to join us.
I believe this is going to be several times larger than anything the left has ever “staged”, as all of their stuff is staged.
The vitriol and biased reporting by the SRM is going to be off the charts. Be prepared, it will sicken you.
I’m proud of you all! I wish we were going but for me right now is not the optimum time for me to be out of town and doing something like this since I just got my first insulin pump 5 days ago and don’t start on the real thing until Sept 11. That could either be a really great weekened for me or one where I need to be close to help, but my heart will be there with all of you!
