Legislation introduced to ban 'czars' By Eric Zimmermann - 09/09/09 10:41 AM ET

House Republicans have introduced legislation to stop the proliferation of so-called "czars".

Introduced by Rep. Jack Kingston (R-Ga.), the "Czar Accountability and Reform Act," which you can read here, would prevent funding for any office headed by an "individual who has been inappropriately appointed to such position...without the advice and consent of the Senate."

The controversy over appointed czars flared up in recent weeks when Republicans took aim at Van Jones, Obama's "Green Jobs Czar," who had made a number of controversial statements before being appointed to his position. Jones resigned over the weekend.

Kingston's legislation has gathered 50 co-sponsors so far, all Republicans.

The bill complements a request by Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-N.C.) to have all czars testify before Congress about their responsibilities.

Good, but we still have the wrong mind-set. It’s responsive, reactionary. We need to be aggressive. The House/Senate staff reform act, which limits all legislators to TWO support people; the SPEND 85% of YOUR TIME IN YOUR OWN DISTRICT/STATE ACT which would force these yayhoos to actually live in Missouri and Alabama, not Washington. I’m open to other aggressive “reforms.”

I agree, but at least we are moving in the right direction again. Momentum is key.

I called my congressional clunker he says he supports this bill ... I called about healthcare, but talked about this.

BTW, IMHO — it’s most effective to call the local office of your clunker.

It’s about friggin’ time.

Hmm... let’s see, if I can’t seat these Marxists in my cabinet because of confirmation hearings, I’ll just call them “czars” and not worry about that whole vetting thing.

It is about TIME ... the unprecedented action by Obama immediately fore shadowed his intent in leadership (which is to make his own rules) without accountability.

This needs wide support and visibility.

"House Republicans have introduced legislation to stop the proliferation of so-called "czars".

It's about time they got off their duffs.

What they really need is a pair of balls for a real change. No other way to put it!

The Democrats turned their balls into ovaries years ago. That's why they all sit with their legs crossed like ladies.

This is cool. Another negative issue with which our “Dear Leader” must contend.

The loss of four Marine’s lives in Afghanistan due to Onade ROE also needs to be exploited to the fullest. If I were a soldier, I would refuse any order that puts me in harm’s way until The WH Usurper proves beyond a shadow of a doubt he is eligible to be president of the US. That SOB occupying the WH is now a murderer and he has not uphelp his oath to defend America from “enemies foreign and domestic”.

And I’m retired military.

This will go nowhere as long as the Dems are in charge.

I still want to know how exactly their paychecks are accounted for. Where and when did money get appropriated for these previously non-existent positions? Does Obama just have a big ol' sack of cash that he hands out? Here comes Santa Claus, here comes Santa Claus...

Our tax dollars are going to pay for over 30 unelected officials who have direct access to the president - and no accountability to us.

We shouldn't be paying for these people. They don't represent us. They represent Oboma only. We're not a dictatorship. We're a Representative Republic.

Not to hijack the thread, but I’ve read about those ROE elsewhere and can’t find the information. Do you know where I can find info? I’ve done a keyword search here without success. Thanks.
