Where Does Napolitano Stand on Illegal Immigration? Just Look at Her Record
Examiner ^ | 9/11/09 | Carl Braun

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano is charged with securing our nation’s borders and ensuring the safety of all Americans. Who is this woman that the LA Times called "The Immigration Law Enforcer," the first governor to send the AZ National Guard to the border (at Federal expense)?

In her first eight months in office, her position on illegal immigration is becoming very clear. Even given all the rhetoric and rattling of mighty swords, it should not be a surprise. We need only look at her total record as Governor of Arizona to see where she really stands on this volatile and complicated issue, because as we know, past behavior is an excellent guide when predicting future actions.

For Secretary Napolitano, her record in Arizona is very revealing. Let’s take a look at her position on illegal alien drivers licenses for example. Arizona introduced a law that would make it more difficult for illegal aliens to obtain them. Napolitano exercised her veto as Governor and sent the bill to the trash bin.

Arizona, again leading the nation at the time on restrictive measures for illegal aliens, introduced a bill that would prevent them from receiving non-emergency public benefits. Governor Napolitano, her veto pen in hand, put an end to such fiscal silliness.

Arizona tried to increase sanctions on crimes related to illegal entry. Vetoed by the Governor.

They tried to prevent illegal aliens from voting. Vetoed. Arizona made a gallant attempt at preventing illegal aliens from being eligible for in-state college tuition, financial aid, or scholarships but facing a veto by Governor Napolitano they backed off choosing instead to pick a battle they might win.

And win they did. Arizona successfully passed an employment law, aimed at restricting the hiring of illegal aliens, only after Governor Napolitano had vetoed its first attempt. When realizing the veto wasn't going to carry the day this time, she jumped on-board and did the "I'm tough as nails thing" again stating: "The bill is a death sentence for business." I wonder what she meant by that?

Anyone see a pattern here? First, Napolitano hasn’t seen a law restricting illegal aliens that she DID like. She did everything within her power as Governor to ensure the will of the people, when it came to illegal immigration, was not followed unless of course she could appear to be tough without having to actually take the gloves off. Secretary Napolitano has all but assured the immigration reform lobby of success in 2010. How can she be so bold? Well as we have seen through recent bureaucratic changes within her agency, Madame Secretary is systematically taking it apart while putting on a public persona as the strict enforcer of the law. Here are the highlights of her public plan.

1. Innovative, technology-driven border control between the ports of entry. (Good stuff only where is the fence? Ah, thats right, no new fence in 2010.)

2. Reform the visa system and streamline the visa process. (Yes ma'am. Lets get as many immigrants as we can into the country next year so they too cannot find work.)

3. Institute a temporary worker program with no amnesty. (Of course not. We won't call it amnesty silly. We'll call it: "immigration reform!")

4. Employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants should be held accountable and penalized.(But let's cut back on those pesky raids. It scares people.)

5. Modernize our border infrastructure so that enforcement does not hinder the flow of legitimate travel and commerce. (Don't get too aggressive now, protecting the country in a time of war. We don't want to tick anyone off. Especially not our good friend and fine neighbor, Mexico.)

6. A pathway to citizenship which involves a substantial fine, learning English, having no criminal history, keeping a job, paying taxes, then getting in the back of the line and waiting your turn. (No criminal history? Well that will be a very short line with identity theft being a felony and all.)

7. Address the root causes of illegal immigration by engaging directly with Mexico and Latin America. (Isn't that what NAFTA and CAFTA were supposed to do?)

Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe deep inside that warm, compassionate shell of a human there really is a "tough enforcer"...a Joe Arpaio in drag. But as we look at the record and see she doesn’t believe illegally crossing the border is a crime in the first place and that she has done her part for the liberal lobby to ensure as few people as possible actually get prosecuted for it, Janet Napolitano, like others in the Obama Administration, can be counted on for only this:

Saying one thing…while doing another.

Rest assured. That trusty veto pen is close at hand and this time, the whole country, will pay for it.

If Obama cared about this country at all, why does he appoint such worthless people?

This one really sticks in my craw. The Dems in Arizona blocked laws that would require identification before you could vote, claiming that it would be a hardship on the poor and disadvantaged.

You need to show ID before you rent a video at Blockbuster, but I guess voting is less important.

Where does Napolitano stand? By the doorway, holding it open for the congo-line of criminals crossing the border.

She’s the master of appearing ‘centrist’ when she wants to be, but scratch the surface and you find a deep blue lib.

Arizona benefited with her departure, but sadly, the nation lost. Its too bad Jan Brewer hasn’t really shined as our new governor. The push to increase taxes from her office isn’t going to put her in the front row at the primaries, either.

Dead on.

Only she's not even a deep blue lib...she's a bright red stone hearted Commie.

I saw her on TV back in the 90's when nobody knew her. She was the Federal DA in Phoenix then, and she was up in Michigan at some conference. Lots of Van Jones types sitting with her: a table of hard line Bolsheviks.

She made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I was in a hotel, taking it easy, and after 5 minutes I was sitting up, wide eyed with a grim look on my face. This woman was the Federal DA in Arizona? Scared the crap outta me.

And then they elected her Governor. All I can say is, at least she didn't get to build her concentration camps for white males...cuz that's what the Dyke wants to do.
