The secrets of Obama's rhetoric
NY Post ^ | September 12, 2009 | Rich Lowry

Everyone marvels at President Obama's rhetorical prowess. But don't be overly bedazzled. With these 13 easy steps, you, too, can give a Barack Obama speech.

1) Create a false center. In his speech Wednesday night, Obama positioned himself between the left calling for a single-payer system and the right agitating to end employer-based health insurance. Presto -- he's the very definition of a centrist. Anyone advocating almost any position can benefit from the same insta-centrism.

The secrets of Obama's rhetoric

That he is able to relentlessly, and convincingly, lie without a shred of intellectual honesty or shame.

I never thought I would find a politician who more disgusted me then Bill Clinton until this guy came along. The shamelessly brazen way this guy lies should be stench in the nostrils of all Americans.

It not a "difference of opinion" a "matter of point of view" this is an issue of simple facts. The facts are the President of the USA is out and out LYING daily to the American people and no one, other then Joe Wilson, seems willing to stand up and say "You are lying".

14) Make sure the media never ask any challenging questions after the speech.

re: Everyone marvels at President Obama’s rhetorical prowess

Well, not EVERYONE! I certainly don't. He has one delivery and that's it. And if it's not read from his teleprompter he totally ineffectual and quite unimpressive.

He is an empty suit with nothing to back up his words.

I can't reach the mute button fast enough when I hear his voice on the radio or TV.

The asshole stutters, needs a tele-prompter to tell him what to say, is spoon fed by Soros operatives. Talks in a monotone, and spouts nothing but generalities. That’s exactly what we need! Idiots like Lowry continuing to build this guy up!? Tear him down! At least Rush used to play his stutters and pauses over and over. Great speaker my lily white ass!

Everyone marvels at President Obama's rhetorical prowess.

No. This is another lie relentlessly perpetrated by his willing butt-buddies in the media.

I think it’s a combination of believing his audience is stupid and gullible and thinking that his power is absolute so it doesn’t matter what anybody thinks.

“We won,” after all.

Who are they kidding?

Hussein's speeches are boring.

Everyone marvels at President Obama's rhetorical prowess.

Back in early February 2008, when we all knew HRC would be the Democratic presidential nominee, I was wandering through the living room on my way to the kitchen. In transit, I heard a news segment, from what channel (FOX, CNN, or MSNBC) I do not recall. Some male politician was droning on, and usually I can tune out their blather like any other vaguely unpleasant background news. But this one was so annoyingly obtrusive I actually asked DBF, "Who IS that idiot maundering on?!?!" It was BHO of course - That was the very first time I became aware of his existence, and I have NEVER been able to understand why anyone thinks that creature is a good speaker or a skilled linguist.I felt vindicated when all the teleprompter jokes started.

He also uptalks. There is no sincerity or conviction in what he says.

Reagan was a great communicator. This guy is a puppet on a string being controlled by Soros and the rest of the far left Marxists.

I have never thought he had a good delivery or was a world class orator...but then again I actually listen to what he says.

Biden was right, he's a clean, black candidate and for some reason that sells in our current culture,

Enough do “marvel” at him, apparently, that the daily Rasmussen’s look better for him since the speech than they have in 2 months.

A whole summer of hard work by the Right seems to be unravelling die to Hussein’s lies.

I hope the tea parties today have an off-setting effect.

I’d love to be positive this morning but take a look at today’s Rasmussen poll.

Not good news for our side.

People DO believe him, for some reason that conservatives can’t appreciate at all.

I can only hope that the 9-12 tea parties today can pump some new energy into the “Right” side!

Just curious, are you from the South? And are you part of a fundamental or evangelical church?

I find that Southerners and Midwesterners who are used to gospel preaching have your reaction to Obama. We know good preaching and find Zippy’s speaking style an utter bore.

I was born in Louisiana, and I grew up there, in Arkansas , and Missouri, with (brief) stays in North Dakota and upstate New York (Elmira/Rome area).( My dad was in the Air Force, so we moved quite a bit.) We ended up in Missouri, where I've stayed except for one year (1995-1996) in Nebraska. That stay convinced me that MO is a border state-not quite southern, but not really mid western-as Nebraska is pure mid west, and there were differences in attitude , behavior, speech, etc between the two states. So yeah...Maybe that explains why the coasters are nuts for him-to them, he sounds much fresher and more exciting than he ever could to those of us in rural/small town areas in the nation's middle.
