Massive crowd marches against Obama's agenda
LA Times ^

Posted on 09/12/2009 5:40:05 PM PDT by Chet 99

Reporting from Washington - Tens of thousands of protesters marched on the U.S. Capitol today, airing a wide range of grievances rooted in a shared sentiment: seething anger at President Obama and his far-reaching agenda.

Led by a fife and drum corps in period costumes, the demonstrators filled Pennsylvania Avenue and swarmed the Capitol grounds with a sea of bobbing placards and hand-lettered signs that spelled out a catalog of dissent.

There were antiabortion protesters and term-limit advocates. Critics of financial bailouts and the federal investigation into CIA interrogation techniques. Marchers worried about rekindling inflation and upset about the soaring national debt. Pickets opposed to Obama's healthcare reform plan and challenging the legitimacy of his election.

"Is This Russia?" one sign said. "Traitors Terrorists Run Our Government," read another. "Don't blame me. I voted for The 'American,' " a third stated.

The protest -- touted by organizers as the largest-ever outpouring of political conservatives -- was organized by a loose-knit coalition of anti-tax, small-government proponents, and widely promoted by sympathetic voices in the blogosphere and on TV and talk radio. Park police declined to provide an official crowd estimate.

The rally was embraced, after some hesitation, by congressional Republicans, some of whom were leery of associating with the more incendiary elements of Obama's opposition.

Thank you for being there and for the report!

Awesome crowd, left things cleaned up, well behaved, creative, full of good sense and good humor.

THESE give me hope for America!

I have no idea how many were there, but our local Conservative radio station had several people over there and they were making cell phone broadcasts from there several times during the day - 10 am the report was between 700 and 800,000 by 1 pm they said that a police Capt. estimated between 1.2 and 1.3 million. They said that there were buses still backed way back trying to get to where they could unload and the metro was still running fully loaded bringing in more people.

Appears there were enough people there that they were overloading the cell towers, as they said they were having to try 15-20 minutes to get a cell phone connection each time.

Oh, wasn’t that little program Thursday the group of Doctors over there opposing 0bamacare?

I posted earlier that we couldn't get cell phone service several times throughout the day. It took several minutes for text messages to go through--sometimes they wouldn't go through at all.

THis is infuriating...tens of thousands? Really? Unbelievable. Did you read the patronizing article the New York Times wrote? You can see it on Drudge...We’ll just have to come back bigger and stronger...They have no idea the rage they have unleashed.

The Florence, South Carolina tea party was held at the city-county complex building where a young coal black man with long braids in his hair gave a speech on the United States constitution, telling everyone they need to read, study and understand it and work to rein in the abuses that are going on now. He explained that all powers not granted to the federal government are reserved to the states or the people so most of what the feds are doing now is outside the constitutional limits. Listening and watching him produced cognitive dissonance, he just didn’t look like a hard-core conservative constitutional advocate.

You really can’t always judge a book by the cover, folks.

Why does the Park police decline to provide an estimate?

I believe it dates back to the Million Man March. Organizers were upset that the Park Police estimate was below their targets and they sued.

After that, the Park Police decided to stop issuing crowd estimates for events.

I’ve been analyzing filled stadium photos to get an idea of what a crowd of about 60K looks like. IN doing that, and looking at satellite images of Obama’s inauguration, I think HIS numbers were around 1 million and not more than that.

I think today’s crowd was 500K at the march, which is still very impressive. If you include latecomers, well, maybe 550K

As a snob, I have little use for the typical NASCAR-watching, foam-hat-wearing, tract-house-dwelling American lump. I find such people to be boorish, clownish, and largely incapable of rational thought.

The upper crust of the Republican Party feels the same way that I do. They detest the average American.

However, at least I’m not going around pretending to be a friend of the common man. I’m open about my better-than-thou attitude, which is one of the many reasons you will never see me running for any political office. The same can’t be said for your GOP “representatives”. They lie to you. They pretend that they are “one of you”, working for the best interests of the average truck-drivin’, bass-fishin’ workin’ Sam and Susie, when in reality most of them are the same slimeball car dealers, bank managers, and lawyers who make their livings ripping Sam and Susie off.

Attention, Walmart shoppers: if you ever want to have any real political power, you are going to have to quit voting for the Republican Party. You are going to have to elect someone like yourselves — a dumb, snake-handling hick with a smooth line of BS and enough native animal cunning to take the Smart Guys on and win. You need a combination of Larry the Cable Guy and John Dillinger, some guy who drinks Lite beer, has eight kids by six mothers, and can fix a truck while drunk. You need Lester, Leroy, Lonnie, or Larry up there in Congress.

Of course, if you win, you’ll just turn the country into a larger version of the trailer parks you all come from, but I’d rather see you ruin things in your smelly, gotesque, all-too-human way, than watch America engineered into a gulag by a bunch of pseudo-intellectual affirmative action cases and the hyper-rich capitalist slime who pull their strings.

Only the power of White Trash can destroy the power structure that runs America. Rise from your fetid, pee-smelling, crumb-encrusted living room couches and smash the state!
