GOP defined by its extremists, like Dems in the ’70s

The Democratic Party struggled at the national level throughout the 1970s and 80s all but shut out of the White House because it was defined by its most extreme elements: war protestors, loony peaceniks, angry black activists, crime apologists, etc. It took years of concerted effort by the Democratic Leadership Council, Bill Clinton and others to reclaim the Democrats reputation as reasonable and pragmatic.
The Republican Party of today is stuck in the same place, defined by Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin, birthers, tea partiers and Joe Wilson. John McCain fell into the trap of being defined by the extremists when he chose former Gov. Palin to run on his ticket. She energized the base, but she scared off moderates and intellectually honest Republicans . Todays big rally in Washington holds the potential for aggravating that reputation. Because TV cameras always focus on the loonies, it wont take many handheld signs denouncing Obama as a Socialist/Muslim/Nazi or questioning his citizenship to exacerbate the GOPs reputation as, to quote Politico, the party of cranks.

For a while, I endure the AJC...if it was in a waiting room, or left at the Waffle House, I might pick it up and read "The Vent", but that's all. However, I have not actually bought an Atlanta newspaper in about 15 years...much less subscribe.
However, with idiots like Cynthia-I-see-a-racist-behind-every-tree Tucker, I won't even pick up a free copy and read it...it's garbage. She's a real jewel of a managing editor, she has alienated all of her white readers, and very few blacks even take the paper.
Due to declining advertising dollars, as business owners don't want to be identified with the radical Ms. Tucker either, they have physically shrunk the paper to the size of "The Weekly Reader" we used to get in grammar school...how tacky.
Now, back to my point!
It's about time some GOP "extremists" got off their duffs and started speaking out.
The problem all along has been that there were very few GOP extremists and that allowed the dems to run all over us.
Yes, we have extreme views, such as believing in America, believing in the Constitution, believing in freedom, and believing in individual acheivement.
Extremist views like hating socialism, communism, and even liberalism as it threatens our country.
Yeah, cythia - you racist windbag - America is about sick of everything being about "race". Shouting "racism" is the last vestige of a bygone era when blacks finally stood up for and got equal rights. That event has been turned into a political football of the left, and they virtually can't move without hurling the word around.
Like a bratty teen trying to hurt their parents by shouting, "You don't love me", the cry of "racism" has been the bratty cry of the left anytime they don't get their way, or, are admonished for their dastardly behaviors.
Well, the best way to cure the bratty teen is to ignore him/her, and the best way to cure the bratty libs is to totally ignore them.
Try this on for size: if everything and every one the left calls "racist" is true, then why aren't the libs filing discrimination lawsuits against the perps, and winning them?
Because, the "racism" exists only the minds of the libs who are not getting their spoiled brat ways, and no racism was committed.
Calling Joe Wilson a "racist" because he recognized and called out obama's lie, is not racist. To say that would insinuate that black people can't lie...which we all know is bogus. Everyone lies from time to time.
So, Cynthia-thank-goodness-for-spell-check Tucker can just take her rants and shove them...she has single-handedly killed the AJC. If it wasn't for Cynthia, there would be no racists left in America...except maybe for obama.

All that is left for the Left is racist demagoguery, to stir up hate against people with white skin, even have a crack pot theory for it “white skin privilege.” First professional conservative to use the word demagogue against the hate filled left will realize a huge bonanaza, calling Glen Beck.

Why is this libmedia/DNC drone telling us what the GOP is and isn’t? We’ve all heard the talking points before.

I believe McCain and his campaign staff lost the election. Were it not for Palin, many more conservatives would have stayed home and Obama would have completely trounced McCain. If the Republicans pull another dinosaur out of congress for 2012(like Dole and McCain), I believe a third party will arise rapidly and the Republican party will wither away. The RNC better wake up, gird their loins, and prepare to battle for this country or they will die along with our freedoms.

Maelstorm you have a point. The alphabets probably could have gotten a waiver from Secy of Homeland Defense Napolitano since they would have been surveilling all those home-grown terrorists ;)

They would have if Obama was given a health care speech. I have noticed Obama is out on the campaign trail is seems to be becoming irrelevant. He is preaching to smaller crowds. Could it be that he has already became a lame duck?

If only the GOP WERE defined by conservative extremists. Instead, it is run by a bunch of neocons, globalists, and socialists...who with a straight face offer themselves as an “alternative” to the Democrats.

LOL...
If ONLY she were right! This country might have a fighting chance of escaping the noose. Perhaps we do anyway, but not because of Republicans!
Strange thing is, she is so VERY WRONG: the Republican Party is defined by the mushy middle like Grahamnesty, McCain, and Collins.
I am not associated with those people.

I say anyone viewed as EXTREME right-wing by Cynthia Tucker...is about right for the center-left...or "moderate" wing of our party.
Now we must expunge the republicans to the LEFT of that mark.

Another leftwing black using that archaic phrase "racism". That used to mean something really bad, didn't it?
It doesn't any more I'm afraid, thanks to people like Cynthia.
Personally, I've started to react to anybody who tosses that into the discussion about the same way Cynthia probably reacts to being called the "N word". It's fighting words.
