Ambulances race to Byrd's home By: Manu Raju September 22, 2009 10:16 AM EST
Ambulances and fire trucks were dispatched to the Northern Virginia home of Sen. Robert Byrd Tuesday morning.
A neighbor of the 91-year-old West Virginia Democrat said several ambulances were outside his residence in McLean, Va., and a Byrd spokesman said the senator suffered a fall in his home. An officer at the McLean Fire Department said that a unit was dispatched at 9:10 to the address where Byrd lives, but he declined to comment on the substance of the response.
Byrd the longest-serving senator in the nations history has been absent from the Senate for much of the year and has been in and out of the hospital battling various ailments.
Byrd apparently stood up too fast this morning in his home and fell down, said Jesse Jacobs, a spokesman for the senator. To err on the side of caution his caregiver called an ambulance. He was taken to the hospital where he is currently being checked out. At this point in time there is no indication that he will be admitted.

and a few days later he has a 'fall' in his home.....
The only living Democrat who can even spell the word “Constitution”. I wish him well.
It is sickening that the Senate has lifetime members like some monarchy. The liberal media then fawns over the Dem monarchs after they die. Sick.
especially in this case...
Happens quite frequently here in JAX. many times, the fire truck is on station and ready to roll while the EMT’s are enroute from their last call. The other reason is in the event the emergency vehicle is involved in a traffic accident, the other can continue the response.
I haven’t seen Byrd ‘stand’ for a long time...so how did he fall while standing up?
He has been disabled for a number of years and like someone mentioned ‘others’ do all his work and bidding...I doubt he know what day of the week it is...
TERM LIMIT a must.....
Few except us old timers remember but BYRD was the reason both TERM LIMITS and the LINE ITEM VETO failed.
Just as they trot out Dukakas to replace the Kennedy vote. Whoops.

Is vote 60 getting elusive again? Won’t matter, they will cram it through with 50 if they have to..
Maroons.

Great legacy..
A paramedic friend of mine says that they have extricating equipment on their vehicles and he wonders why firefighters are always called out as well.
In Obamacare world, he would arrive at the hospital for some end of life counseling..

Right, or die of preventable causes before that happened.
He should have made sure the eye-holes in the hood were properly aligned

Now, you’re askin’ for the moon! Wow, conservatives have such unrealistically high expectations of our Democrat officials. (</s> - just in case...)
I think it has more to do with response time - they can frequently get there more quickly than the ambulance, and with their first aid and CPR training those minutes or seconds can save lives.
He slipped on his hood.
Now ObamaCre can deny him a new hip and put him on pain meds instead.
Once heard hit 150 years old its been down hill ever since
Its so that if the guy/girl/man/women as a fatso they can get him/her/it out and into the meat wagon.

Yet another benefit of John Mackay’s approach to health care reform.

Maybe there was a burning cross that needed to be put out.
Seriously, though...some departments send a truck in case extra manpower is needed. My Dad drove Engine 3 for the Portland, Maine FD, and he once had to help carry a 400 pound woman down 5 flights of stairs in a Stokes stretcher.
Its been working at 5% capacity I think
Agree on term limits. The only major flaw the Framers of The Constitution made is no term limits, 6 year terms for Senators - they should be 3 year and failing to be more specific on the requirements for President in the natural born requirement.
See post 137. One of the lowlights of the old man’s career. :-)
