A St. Petersburg fire truck heading to a call of a bleeding man apparently ran over the man.
According to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue, the department received a call about 3:45 p.m. today about a "person bleeding'' in the 400 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street South. That location is about a block from the fire station.
A fire truck headed out of the station's garage bay and immediately hit a man lying on the driveway, the fire department reported. The man appears to be the same person referenced in the earlier call, according to St. Petersburg Fire Rescue.
Fire officials said the injured man was Ted Lenox, a 41-year-old homeless man who tends to frequent downtown St. Petersburg. Lenox had laid down in front of one of the station's garage bay doors, and someone called 911 to report him.
When the fire station received the call, the firefighters got in the truck and hit Lenox on the way out of the garage bay. The truck's undercarriage caught Lenox and tumbled him forward; the truck stopped when firefighters felt a bump as the rear wheels ran over him.
Lenox was taken to Bayfront Medical Center with what are described as life-threatening injuries.
Human speed bump. Bummer.
Cue scene from “Hot Shots” when the ambulance runs over Dead Meat.
I’ll have to remember to bring this up at the next safety meeting.
I wonder if they don’t get final destination info from dispatch till they’re underway.
No, they get the address while still in station (at least our guys do). There is a huge map in front of the radio so when the captain responds to the call he is already looking at the map to find out exactly where to go.
Nothing good can come of that.
I see so much stupid crap done in the name of efficiency I just wondered if they were following what some of the trucking industry was doing.
I wonder if the EMS people are all loaded into their vehicles before they open the garage doors.
If he was right on the driveway, why didn’t they knock on the door to tell them instead of calling 911?
Geez!
I thought “I” was having a bad day!
Poor guy!
i was thinking the same thing when i read that...
I shouldn't laugh, but THAT'S funny!
BANG!
"OK, he's dead. Now what?"
Old joke.
My theory is that the victim was the caller. Suicide by fireman.
Dang...
There bad luck... and then there’s *really* bad luck.
Local news said he was a couple blocks away when the 911 call was made. He walked down to the fire station and laid down in front of the doors. just in time for it to run him over.
*there’s bad luck* — he meant.
