Ships at sea are not affected by tsunamis. The rise in ocean levels there is in the inches. It is not until the tsunami hits shallow waters that problems occur.

Tsunamis are just swells in the ocean until the get near shore. Ships in the Indian Ocean in 2004 didn’t notice anything.

One would assume that CBS has finished filming their "Survivor" season on Samoa and are long gone.
Do you know where CBS was filming, and if they have already returned to the States? (I went to http://www.cbs.com/survivor twice, and, before the page finished loading, it froze up, forcing me to force-quit my browser -- twice...)
From looking at the episodes they showed so far, it was hard to tell which direction the beaches they were camped on were facing. And, AFAIK, they never said where in (American, I assume) Samoa they were filming...
Hope your family and all your friends fared well through this disaster!
