MS-DOS: The Mac is a toy. Our customers don’t want to use a mouse.

Windows 95: Hey, we’ve got a mouse too, just like a Mac!

Windows 98: Even more Mac-like!

Windows ME: Watch out Apple, we’ve caught up to the Mac now!

Microsoft “Bob”: Even better than a Mac!

Windows 2000: Finally, an OS as good as the Mac!

Windows XP : At last, Windows is as good as a Mac!

Windows Vista: Now it’s just as good as a Mac. We promise. This time we finally got it right!

Windows 7: This version of Windows is really as good as a Mac. Really!

Windows 8: Sorry about that, but we’ll get it right next time!

Reality: Windows is a crap operating system running crap applications on crap hardware. It is barely usable. Apple is years ahead of Microsoft.

Well, far be it from me to argue (I don't do OS/platform wars), but allow me to comment on your comments.

[Versions]... In general, Windows has been 2-4 years behind the Mac on every major innovation. But remember that (as Swordmaker pointed out above) most Mac users have personal experience and familiarity with Windows, while most Windows users have never worked on a Mac at all. This is important -- to most Windows users, Windows REALLY IS as good as what they (inaccurately) think a Mac is. That's an unwinnable argument. Your post is funny, but actually rather sad, since that really is what a lot (maybe most) Windows users think about the comparisons.

"Crap operating system". True in some respects, not in others. The DOS line (through ME) was certainly crap. The NT line held more promise, though by now the codebase is way past time to be replaced. Microsoft could follow Apple and build their next one over Unix... but they won't. Anyway, Windows 7 is not crap -- it is (at last) a very good operating system for what it purports to be, a base for running Windows applications.

"Crap applications". Depends. I run some Windows apps that I wish were available for my Macs. My major gripe about Windows apps has always been the lack of consistency, but Apple's very heavy authoritarian hand in that respect has not always been a blessing either. App stability is generally much better with the Mac, but you can't lay the Windows app instabilities at Microsoft's feet unless you are comparing the identical app in both environments.

"Crap hardware". Apple doesn't make crap hardware, but a lot of PC vendors do. So don't buy it. I find the mid-high range of PC hardware entirely acceptable from a functional point of view. Is it as aesthetically pleasing as a Mac? No way. But that's not important to most PC users, so the fact that I enjoy buying/opening/using an Apple product for that whole "unboxing-experience" thing doesn't really translate into something missing for those PC folks who don't give a damn about it.

"Barely usable". There I must disagree -- I find Windows XP extremely usable. Win7 is okay, I can live with it. Granted, I find OS-X most usable of all, but that doesn't mean I can't get along in Windows. Now if you really want "barely usable" let's talk about Solaris... nah, let's not. My opinion is not shared by all.

"Apple is years ahead of Microsoft". Design-wise, yep. And by the looks of things, will remain so. Of course, they are doing SYSTEMS, not just software, so that gives them a bit of an advantage.

And of course, standard caveats... YMMV.

Reality?

The reality is that even Mac users are embarrassed by over-the-top fanboi posts like yours.

Grow up.
