Retailers Pin Hopes on Palin Book
The Wall Street Journal ^ | 10-15-09 | Jeffrey A. Trachtenberg And MICHAEL M. PHILLIPS

Sarah Palin's memoir, "Going Rogue: An American Life" will likely be a mega-seller when it hits bookshelves next month, a shot in the arm for the book business and perhaps also for the former Alaska governor's unorthodox political career.

Harper, an imprint of News Corp.'s HarperCollins Publishers, said it has received media inquiries from major TV and radio talk shows and is teeing up a major promotional schedule. "Going Rogue" has an initial print run of 1.5 million copies, the same number at the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's memoir, "True Compass."

I sincerely hope that Sarah restricts her appearances to FOX stations only.

re: former Alaska governor's unorthodox political career

Correction, please! Make that her “blessedly unorthodox political career!”

I saw a bumper sticker this morning that was a new on to me. It had the usual Obama logo, but the caption was, “Yes, we did!” I have to agree, yes you indeed did do it. But I wonder long you will continue to brag about this on your car!

I would like to think there will come a day, hopefully sooner rather than later, when they their bumper sticker says, “Now we've done it!”

Ironic that the leftie bookstores (and almost all of them are) hope Sara's book pulls their Marxist coffee houses into the black!

This is a country of some 244 million adults. Irrespective of how they feel about Sarah Palin - for or against - surely, more than .574% of them will be buying this book. I bet at least that number of flaming liberals that will be buying the book. Something tells me that they’re going to need a reprint.

It is hilarious; I wonder if they’re smart enough to see the irony?

Note that they are NOT pinning their hopes on Romney’s book.

True Compass sold 168,000 its first week (9/20). It sold 24,000 this past week. It’s sold 300,000 overall, which in the full scheme of book sales is a very high number but they’ll be shredding a lot of copies of the Kennedy book.

Print runs are pretty fluid. Much depends on how much the retailers and big box stores are willing to buy in. Publishers are very hesitant to have huge print runs and then get returns because the publisher takes all of the risk. They’ll have the reprint press fired up and ready to go.

That’s funny. When Limbaugh’s books came out, Dalton, Borders, and BN would hide them somewhere in the shelves instead of putting them on a forward display.

Now they are hoping for a Conservative’s book to do well to save their sorry cans?

And they see no connection between their ideology and their miserable lives.

I look forward to tormenting some bookstore cashier with Sarah's book - and maybe a copy of Shotgun News as well. Just gotta time my purchase to get the cashier with the most facial piercings.

Think about this one, too:

Marxist hippies shoplift their reading material, or bathe in the restrooms while reading on premises.

Sarah's readers will BUY the books, and read them at home, AFTER WORK.

Well they better get in bed with the booksellers, because Barnes & Noble and Borders like to hide conservative books in the back and out of the main areas. Their own little way of stemming speech they don't believe in. Look for "Going Rogue" hidden on the bottom shelf among the books nobody wants to buy.

And unlike some book deals for high level political figures, Palin's book will see. She won't have to buy a warehouse of her own books.
