You are exactly right. The GOP needs to gauge each district and try to do the best we can. Remember when Pataki got elected? He was a moderate, but he was a hell of a lot better than Cuomo or what they have down there now. I would rather win with a moderate than lose and end up with a lib. That said, if we started running moderate candidates in places like Oklahoma, then yes I'd be upset.
I wonder if all of the "Conservative or nothing" crowd would really like to see the GOP running a pro-life, pro-gun rights candidate for mayor in NYC or San Francisco? Bachmann couldn't get elected dog catcher in either of those cities.

The Dems are the party of deception.
If they try this in 2010, we need to pin them down on what they would be for and what they would be against on each smaller issue of the larger conservative issues on which they take a stand. The public is 99% ignorant and will take a candidate's stated macro position at face value.
