Newt Gingrich: Doug Hoffman support a 'mistake'
Politico ^ | 10/26/09 | Andy Barr

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich is warning conservative activists that their support for a third-party candidate in a key upcoming New York special election is a “mistake.”

In a video captured last week and posted on YouTube Friday, Gingrich told tea party organizer Lisa Miller at a book-signing event that conservatives are inadvertently hindering the cause by backing Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman over Dede Scozzafava, the Republican Party’s nominee.

“I just think it is a mistake for the conservative movement to think splitting in the special election is a smart idea,” Gingrich said. “If we give that seat to the Democrats, shame on us.”

A number of top national conservative voices have endorsed Hoffman in the last week, while others have yet to weigh in on behalf of either candidate. Gingrich, however, is one of the few prominent conservatives to support Scozzafava.

Screw you Newt! I’m not voting for another John McCain just to keep the Republican name-brand. If it walks like a Democrat, quacks like a Democrat, and flies like a Democrat - then it is a freakin’ Democrat! Let the people vote for a Democrat if they really want a Lib agenda, but give conservaties a place at the table. NO MORE ARLEN SPECTERS!! No more Lindsay Graham Crackers!!

Newt has forgotten that he was adopted at birth.

He’s also forgotten the mother who was brave enough to give birth v. abortion.

Hoffman would caucus with the Republicans, I’m sure, and vote when them when he thought it was appropriate.

While it is true that voting for a PRESIDENTIAL candidate who does not represent a major party is self-defeating, building a party to displace one of the major parties, or taking over one of the major parties, from the ground up is the way our system works.

Palin will be the spokesman for the GOP. Whether the GOP likes it or not.

Sarah and Rush are the spokespersons for the Conservatives across our land, Party or no Party.

Principle before Party should be the Battle Cry.

If the GOP wants to follow the lead of Conservatives, then that would be their call.

The train is coming down the track.

Get on, Get off, or get out of the way.

This begs the question...Why is Newt fighting this so much? There would have been a time that he would have lead the fight for more conservatism....oh yeah he did...what happened to him?

A bad RINO is worse than a Dem.

You know where the Dem stands all the time and if there are any surprises they are in your favor.

Who cares if the RINO votes right 90% of the time when the RINO votes terribly wrong on the most critical 10% of the issues?

Now that we are rapidly descending into Socialism, all of these closet leftists in the Republican party are having a hard time staying under their rocks! Gingrich has proven himself to be a man of weak character, and it is beyond me why any sane person would listen to him. With very few exceptions, Sarah Palin being the brightest star in that group, the Republicans are left of where the Democratic Party stood when George McGovern made his White House bid in 1972. They are no longer relevant as a Conservative party and need to be dumped.

Say hello to Fonzie for me, Newt.

Indeed! Newt couldn't have jumped the shark any more if he wore the leather jacket and had a friend named Richie Cunningham.

I’m not so sure about the “massive” part. We had a state senatorial race two years ago and the D won. First time in many, many years. I haven’t seen a recent demo for the 23rd. I”m sure Rs outnumber, but i don’t know by how much. The presence of Fort Drum is a wild card. sd

Seems when Newt opens his big mushy yap these days I get just one more reason for ever thinking he was worth defending. He never ceases to amaze me at how low he will stoop to keep backing the Big Tent RINO party of liberals masquerading as moderates. Go ahead and tell us just how much of a compassionate moderate you are Newtured!
