I do recognize the anti-incumbent sentiment. BUT if the GOP sees that as the primary takeaway here, then the GOP is even more stupid than I thought.
At this point, Steele, Newt, and ther rest of them need to support the Conservative Party candidate, and declare that the GOP is make a strategic choice for the future.
Pretty cool that Sarah Palin was so far ahead of the curve on this one. Very Reagan-esque.
Steele cannot come out and publically support Hoffmann ... DeDe, like it or not, was the nominee of the Republican party in New York. It was an awful nomination, but Steele can’t publically throw them under the bus ...
However, I’m sure there are private discussions going on and it is being made clear to DeDe and the Clinton County delegate that got her nominated that if DeDe doesn’t withdraw, both of their political careers will be over ...
And do you seriously think Pataki makes this endorsement without talking to Steele and making sure this won’t hurt him down the road ... I doubt it.
Steele is not a chest-thumper ... but he IS very smart and, when given a chance, very effective ...
Maybe the GOP decided to play by the lib rules and endorse a lib “republican” in order to split the lib vote, which would benefit a conservative candidate in a liberal state like NJ...\s
Although I didn't pay any attention to what was being said (I was hitting the hay at that hour!), it did occur to me that perceptions are at work here.
Apparently, the Left now views Newt as “acceptable” and appropriately rehabilitated enough to be allowed into such venues.
At least, that's my take of it.
It's probably time for the Conservative movement to say “thanks” for past services rendered, and lay the guy to rest (politically!).
CA....
Democrats called 1994 an anti-incumbent year also.
The author doesn’t want to admit that the people in that district might even be rejecting liberalism, along with incumbents. Hopefully, a trend begins.
You really think they are going to get that message...or at least admit getting it?
From what I saw on Beck, Hoff is a terrible candidate. He will be a 1 termer at best. The only possible future he has is as the democrat poster child for describing conservatives as inarticulate boobs.
