Ah... that story has them reversed in seating from what I heard. The trainee in the drivers seat and the veteran cop in the passenger’s seat. Your story being a release from the department is probably more accurate.

Yeah, I saw the other version too. The info appeared to say they were parked on the west side of the street next to the south bound lanes, which, since it's a two way street, would put the drivers side next to traffic. However, if you take a look at Google’s streetview, it appears people park facing both directions on that street, so I guess either way's possible. The vehicle supposedly fled northbound, which would mean they either hung a u-turn (thereby avoiding being on the unit's camera), or the driver was the shooter, or it means the unit was parked on the west side facing north, which makes the story about the rounds entering on the passenger side plausible. I'm not sure what we can say for sure at the moment so, I guess we'll have to wait ‘til they nab the dude, whereupon they'll release some of the info only he would know.

Here’s another story, quoting a Sunday news conference.

We’re back to the unit facing south at the right curb, trainee in driver’s seat. Occupants of vehicle that approached from the north opened fire, apparently with a rifle, then backed up and made a U turn and fled back the way they came. So that probably puts the shooter in the right seat of the suspect vehicle. That driving pattern, to me, suggests some degree of experience on the part of the killers.
