Steele defends Snowe: 'She works in Maine' (stupid RINO alert)
The Hill, Washington, DC ^ | 2009-11-04 | Eric Zimmermann

Posted on 11/04/2009 9:32:53 AM PST by rabscuttle385

A day after Tim Pawlenty took a few shots at Olympia Snowe, RNC Chairman Michael Steele came to her defense.

Asked on Morning Joe whether there was room for the Maine centrist in the GOP, Steele responded "absolutely."

Welcome! Welcome! Because--you know why that's important? Because every footprint of this party is different from region to region, from county to county. I can't win in the northeast with someone who'd be a better candidate suited in the south....So the reality of it is I'm looking to find my candidates where they are. And I want to lift them up because they represent those districts. So like New England, Olympia Snowe works there for her. She may not translate in South Carolina. She works in Maine.

Yesterday, Pawlenty warned Snowe that she was risking her spot in the GOP by possibly supporting healthcare reform. He also refused to say whether he was glad Snowe was a Republican.

Steele is right. I don’t like Snowe’s views most of the time, but she has been elected multiple times by the Republicans in hir state. Who’s to say they can’t do that?

I got a “Past due” letter from the RNC this week. It went into the round file.

Steele going bi-polar again.

This man doesn't have the slightest understanding of conservative principles, nor did he comprehend what yesterday's election wins mean.

Steele, you're a nice guy, but you really need to read Mark Levin's "Tyranny & Liberty" to get a clue of what the Republican party is supposed to stand for. You are SO off the reservation, and aren't qualified to run our party.

One nutcase trying to help another nutcase. Steele needs to resign. And Snowe needs to be replaced by someone with intelligence.

I think Rush stated it correctly today. You need to have a primary and get behind the person elected from the primary. He gave New Jersey as the example.

We can disagree with Steele, but he has a valid point. Conservatives have been ineffective at articulating the conservative message, particularly in the New England region. As a result, the moderates have filled the communication gap. Steele is right, Snowe works for the voters of Maine. It doesn’t have to be this way, but until conservatives find a way to effectively communicate to non-conservatives why our principles matter, it’s going to be like this for some time to come.

Same story with Pataki/Rudy in NY, Kirk in IL, and Fiornia in CA. These RINO’s rise to the top in the blue states because its just to difficult for a conservative to come in and effectively compete because campaign-wise they lack the required tact, wit, charm, charisma, and stamina. To effectively compete and campaign, you have to run and talk like Reagan and less like a commentator. Everybody wants to be like Rush and Ann these days and while there’s nothing wrong with that, it just isn’t suited for campaign-mode.

By winning 49 states, Reagan showed how a conservative campaign can and should be one. I have yet to see any major conservative leader go back to this model. My belief though is that when somebody does pick up the Reagan mantle, it will be a conservative from a deep blue state that shifts the political paradigm.

The RNC, for one. If she does not vote with the Republicans while adhering to the platform, she is in the wrong party. Her key votes go too consistently the wrong way.

"He didn’t learn anything by watching the NY23."

His idea of a regionally appropriate candidate was DeeDee Scarfaceaza.

As Rush said today, if the Rino Party had gotten behind Hoffman from the beginning instead of that liberal who for some selfish reasons calls herself "Republican" Hoffman would have won "going away".

You are right - Snowe has been sent to the Senate by the voters of Maine since 1995.

Michael Steele has been RNC Chairman since January 2009 in the wake of Obama’s annointing.

I don’t believe he has the right to dump all GOP sitting Senators & Representatives - his job is to encourage good candidates to run in the primaries and help those selected by the voters to win in the general elections.

The Republican party endorsing Snow is like the Catholic church endorsing Satan. I don’t know about everyone else, but I’ve got enough problems with liberals in my life without being forced to donate to them through my political party.

The RNC, for one.

So the RNC should should disregard the will of the local voters and tell them who they can vote for? As a conservative that offends me.

'She works in Maine'

I really get sick of this mentality that just because people live in this or that geographical location they must be selfish, America-hating scumbags. The truth is that certain areas have been propagandized and morally corrupted by monopolistic Democrat newsrooms for decades. These newsrooms were able to become dominant in those areas (I'm looking at you, northeast) by being enablers of a corrupt political party. That corrupt political party, the Democrats, gained strength largely due to a combination of economic circumstances - - primarily union-based work forces that were decimated through union thug/communist greed in combination with an emerging global economy - - and the willingness to take advantage of those economic circumstances by confiscating money (taxes) from some Americans and using that money to buy the votes of other Americans.

It's a new day.
The old newsrooms are dying. The rats no longer control the selection, dissemination, and spin of the daily news.

There is no longer any reason for the Republicans to cede those geographic areas that have been corrupted for decades by the unholy alliance of the Democrat party and its "mainstream" newsrooms. It is a matter of work, and I hope the GOP rolls up its sleeves and gets down to it.

Steele’s problem is the problem infecting much of the Republican party.

People like him do not have and concrete foundational beliefs. If they do, they are ashamed, apologetic, and/or embarrassed by them because they certainly don’t pronounce them with much gusto.

That she does, Michael. The problem is, of course, that as last night’s results show, even in Maine, there are limits to how much leftist BS the electorate, and specifically the center-right electorate, will take.

BS

If you were a conservative with a pulse who lived in NY-23, you voted for Hoffman yesterday, hands down. Yet that only made up 45-46% of the vote.

There is no way to tell who these 10,000+ Scaza voters would have gone. Perhaps being brain-dead and just voting for the (R), they may have gone to Hoffman, but how much faith do you want to put in a voter like this who seems totally apathetic to the candidates or issues. Then there are moderates and liberal RINOs that were so enraged with the conservatives that they either voted for Scazza or Owens just because.

NY-23 doesn’t appear to be as conservative as people thought. Obama won the district last year 52-47, which sort of matches the NY-23 results. My best guess is that the new USA Secretary McHough was just lucky enough to be an acceptable choice to both the moderates and conservatives in the district. Interestingly, when (R) Boehlert represented the district from 1998-2004 his main opposition came from the conservative party and David Vickers who got 20% of the vote. So this appears to be a very moderate district to begin with and the deck may have already been stacked against Hoffman.

One more reason why the GOP leadership needs a cleansing enema.

From Steele, to McConnell to Boner, they are totally clueless.

Steel is an idiot. He will never be able to bring the GOP back to life. He has the political astuteness of a brick wall. I have come to believe that the only reason he got elected in Maryland was the color of his skin
