peace loving man...who joins the military and raise to rank of Major... Except that if he joined the Army as a doctor, he starts at the rank of Captain. Major is only one promotion from his starting rank. (I learned that from years of watching the TV show M*A*S*H)

I think I read that he got his medical degree in the army.
He had a big time science degree from Virginia Tech.
