Fifty-eight percent (58%) of likely voters say it is at least somewhat likely the next president of the United States will be a Republican, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey.
The number has been trending in this direction since Democrat Barack Obama took office in January and is up 14 points since then.
Thirty-one percent (31%) of voters see it as Very Likely that the next president will be a Republican.
The survey was taken on Tuesday and Wednesday nights of this past week, but the question did not specify whether the next president will be elected in 2012 or 2016. Republicans recaptured the governorships of New Jersey and Virginia in elections on Tuesday
Just 29% of voters now say it is not very or not at all likely the next president will be from the GOP, the lowest level found all year and down nine points from January.
Sixty-six percent (66%) of men expect the next president to be a Republican, compared to 52% of women.
Eighty-five percent (85%) of Republicans see a member of their party winning the presidency as likely, including 57% who see it as very likely. Sixty percent (60%) of voters not affiliated with either major party think they're right, but just 31% of Democrats agree.
Looking less far ahead, a plurality (49%) of voters now say it is at least somewhat likely that Republicans will win control of Congress next year. Fifty-two percent (52%) say Republicans are the party most likely to gain seats in Congress in next years mid-term elections.

Yeah and they’ll have a lot of crap to undo if possible.
I don’t care what anyone says, McCain was better then what we got now...
SOCIALISM, PERIOD. Rules, regulations, buy insurance or go to jail, do as we say or else. He could have kept the left from gaining so much ground.
It’s going to be a rough road. The people who didn’t
vote for the (R) put us in this hellhole.
Romney?
...Guess McCain won't be running in 2012. Or,,, will he? So, the question is, who will be? Palin, I think so. Might even support her, this time. Who else. Any predictions? GOP right or left? That leaves out Mc, and maybe Gin-grinch. Supported Thompson last primary, might run again. Can't think of anyone else, but, it's a long way off...
...A Conservative, maybe a third party candidate that has a consistent record on the issues of, small government that have margined them for many years. Hmmmm, sounds like candidates I've been voting for, for many years...
...I've never been polled, and won't answer to a poll. Voted third party for many years and cursed for getting democrats elected. Truth is, I wait till the end of the day, when my vote doesn't matter, and I've done my civic duty. That way, I get to vote on my principles, cause my vote doesn't matter, my wife and stepson only lose one vote. And, to be true to my cynicism of the fix all ready in, I can sleep good that night. Unfortunately, I don't sleep very well, for other reasons...
...Hope I've made a point, and not just ranted without a contribution to a solution. Goody evey...
Well, I was trying to be funny.
With your log in name it was quite obvious!
She is my candidate too. It’s not Romney’s turn!!
I donated to the Republican National Committee last year only because of Sarah. Like many on this site, I no longer give money to the Republican Party at any level. I only give to individual candidates. I also believe the election would have been an Obama landslide if it were not for Sarah.
I totally agree..and I know you were being funny :-) I wrote you a message in your mailbox. Sarah is the only one that makes libs crap their pants, literally at the mention of her name. Remember the saying, the media and the libs tell us everyday who they are afraid of, they don’t mention Romney or Huckabee or Pawlenty, they only crap their pants when they hear Sarah’s name, that is enough for me
I believe that she will take her oath seriously. That's how she's done everything in her life so far.
nearly half of the electorate HATED HILLARY’s GUTS before the primary, and she would of won the election against McRino in a cakewalk.
Which says a lot more about McRino than it does about Hillary's approval rating.
Wow. Contrast that with Michelle Obama’s look.
