WASHINGTON (AP) - Former President Bill Clinton is urging Senate Democrats to put aside their differences and pass a health care overhaul bill.

Clinton, who failed in his reform bid nearly 20 years ago, spoke to lawmakers Tuesday at their weekly luncheon. Emerging from the closed-door session, Clinton said passage of a bill was critical in a time of job losses and rising health care premiums.

Relating his remarks to reporters, he said of finishing legislation: "This is an economic imperative."

Bill Clinton wants Democrats to pass a health care bill.

And I want a pony for Christmas.

So, I guess that means Bubba is getting a vicarious thrill going down his leg lobbying for this dreadful legislation?

I kinda miss Bubba. Unlike Mr. Obama, he was at least somewhat entertaining.

Dreadful president, though.

Bubba was at the Daily Kook convention about three months ago. His theory was that once healthcare passed and none of the crazy things the Republicans were complaining about came true, Obama would be more popular than ever.

Of course, that is exactly what would happen since NONE of the bill (other than the tax increases) would take effect until 2013. Clinton knows this, of course, and just can’t resist being, well, slick.

I don’t believe for a minute that he really wants to see it passed.

Rush said today that Bubba was telling them that the reason the dims lost all those seats in '94 was because they did NOT vote for healthcare when Shrillary was pushing it.

The reason dims lost in '94 was because voters wanted to make sure dims couldn't try to pass it again.

There were two reasons Dems lost Congress in ‘94:

1) The largest tax increase in history. Remember “Bye Bye Marjorie”? Marjorie Magolis was the final vote that put Clinton’s tax increase over the top. She and a ton of other Dems were swept out the next year.

2) Gays in the military. Don’t ask, Don’t tell was a compromise Colin Powell came up with after Clinton’s failed effort to allow gays to serve openly.

And I’ll add another military angle: the Battle of Mogadishu and Defense Sec’y Les Aspin’s horrible behavior in its aftermath. The Clinton team was seen as literally the gang that couldn’t shoot straight.

The DEFEAT of health care has never been cited as the cause of the ‘94 elections...until this year. Up til now, the reasoning had been that the very attempt to pass health care legislation had taken its toll. It’s only now (when it supposedly helps Obama) that the meme has arisen that NOT passing health care cost them the congress. Revisionist history...the worst kind.

I don’t remember Marjorie but I do remember being p!ssed that they were trying to mess with healthcare.

I was working in healthcare at the time and it sounded like a disaster to me - just as today’s evil brew.
