The night after the attack, ABC's Nightline had a recreation using computer-generated animation that virtually mirrors what is retold to the Times. I'm not sure what the "controversy" is. And, it's not AT ALL unusual for eyewitness testimony from multiple witnesses to contradict one another.
As in any crime scene, modern day forensics will eventually paint the the most truthful picture of what happened. What is not in question, is that a murdering Islamo-Fascist bastard killed 14 and wounded close to 30, including Officer Munley.
