I live in the town of Farrakhan and Jackson so I am more than familiar with knee-jerk “RACIST!” outcries.
This was a bonehead move by the teacher. But I think it points out a difference in what is true racism versus what is perpetuating a nasty stereotype. Racism harbors intent/contempt. I don’t know the teacher or principal, but I doubt it was done with intent to harm.
well at the very LEAST it was done with some mindboggling insensitivity. Freepers are generally the LAST ones to find something racist but the consensus appears to be that is t the SLAP YOU IN THE FACE level of insensitivity.
The teacher is just an ignorant jerk and used poor judgment. The mother should have just conveyed that sentiment to her son, although he probably realizes it already.
