Durbin walks back comments about Lincoln's vote

A few moments ago, Sen. Dick Durbin walked back a statement he made earlier today that Sen. Blanche Lincoln told Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid how she is going to vote tomorrow. Lincoln and Sen. Mary Landrieu are the only two Democrats who have not yet publicly stated their intentions.

Lincoln has been careful not to tip her hand and Durbin's comments essentially outed her as a yes vote. And when you're running as an independent voice from a party that's not well liked in your state, it's not helpful to have the Senate's No. 2 Democrat saying you privately had a come-to-Jesus moment with party leaders before you told your constituents how you're voting.

Durbin's statement:

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) issued the following statement today following press reports that imply that Sen. Blanche Lincoln has disclosed to Senate Leadership how she intends to vote on the motion to proceed to invoke cloture on the Senate health reform bill:

“In a conversation with reporters earlier today, some of my remarks regarding Senator Lincoln were unclear and have been incorrectly interpreted.

Let me be clear: Senator Lincoln has had a number of conversations with Sen. Reid about the health care reform legislation. She has asked important questions and there has been a positive and healthy give and take.

But Sen. Lincoln has not yet signaled her intention as to how she will vote on tomorrow’s cloture motion. I have worked with Sen. Lincoln for years and know that she will reach a decision that is best for her constituents, her state and the nation.”

This dope has a history of making remarks which might be 'unclear' and subject to 'misinterpretation'. His "...Pol Pot and others" schpiel has still not been satisfactorily explained, but he is now considered 'an advocate of our men and women in uniform, and veterans of all our armed services'. The secret is that he simply doesn't care. He knows that his constituents are as dumb as dirt (they routinely give him 60+ percent) and that a little sunshine blown up their ass will make everything better. His job is to BS other democrat senators and round up their votes, and with about a trillion in loose change to grease palms with, no 'damage ' is so great that it can't go away. One of the more loathesome characters out there; worse than Schumer, in my opinion.
