No. They need 60 to end the Republican filibuster. The filibuster cannot start until the bill is allowed to be debated on the floor of the senate. The vote tonight is only to start debate. To stop the filibuster will require 60 votes sometime in the future.

I don’t understand the reconciliation procedure but I believe that I heard that the deadline to pass the bill by reconciliation was in October.

I don’t think so.

THis is not over yet and to bring up Palin at this point is clearly just making your damned point and not addressing the current crises.

Reconciliation, which would allow Democrats to circumvent the 60-vote threshold and pass parts of the bill with a simple majority.

http://blogs.abcnews.com/george/2009/11/reid-rules-out-reconciliation-.html

Senate majority leader Harry Reid today seemed to rule out a reconciliation vote on health care.

But will he find some wiggle room later if he needs it?

Allow me to be a pessimist and say that I highly doubt we will ‘slaughter’ the Democrats. We’ll make gains but we certainly will not wipe them out. That is wishful thinking, not realistic.

While I understand this is a vote to bring it up for discussion and that simply bringing it up makes it one step closer, it IS true that it is just a vote to debate it?

They aren’t going to vote on it tonight after an hour of debate, are they?

Well, given the history, they might.

I repeat THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A ‘MODERATE’ DEMONRAT. THEY ARE ALL FRAUDS looking to get elected in districts they would NEVER have a chance otherwise. This is proof that they are just as leftist as Pelosi and Reid and always have been, but many of us already know that and those who actually thought you could convince ‘blue dogs’ any other way on this radical agenda, you are finding out now that it was all a sham because there are NO SUCH THINGS! Is there any doubt that the Demon party are instruments of evil?!

Democrats have never ket anything like rules or laws stand in their way;if its inconvenient, they just change them-simple.

Okay...I didn’t know they had to vote to stop debate, but that does seem like a formality.

Take a breath. This is nowhere near “over.” All this vote today does is allow the bill to be debated. There was little doubt that this vote would pass. Big deal. The next vote, probably several weeks from now, is for cloture and it is far from certain that it will pass. If it does, then there will be a vote on the actual Senate bill.

Even then, the House and Senate bills have to be reconciled, and the resulting bill then has to be passed by both houses. This could go well into 2010 before a final vote is taken. There will be several opportunities for whole process to blow up in their socialist faces.

You are correct on that...when liberals saw they could openly flaunt the Constitution and not get called on it, that emboldened them.

And now look where we are.

Another one folds.

How is Liberman voting?

He said (I think) that he wouldn’t vote for it if abortion were not covered.

Lieberman is worthless.

So, he supported the Iraq war, which he is absolutely powerless to affect one way or another.

But the thing he CAN affect.... health care ... he caves to his liberal hench buddies...

Sickening.

Every single person who is running for the house or senate must be asked, “if elected will you put forth legislation that will rescind every single provision of health care that has passed”.

Those that say yes we support and hold their feet to the fire over the promise.

Those that say no, we target and let them know why they are being targetted.

Actually, the GOP has been very idiotic. Look at 2 US Senate seats in particular: Conrad Burns in Montana (2006) and Ted Stevens in Alaska (2008). If those two had been pushed out of the way, those seats should have been held by the GOP, and the data supports that. If even 1 of those seats was retained, this bill would be dead.

Now what? The GOP is forced to grovel to Joe Lieberman? He's going to vote with the Rats every chance he gets, he wants to keep his committee chairmanships.

Elections have far reaching consequences.

I think we might need a ne Party. The Democrats can be honest and just change to the Communist Party, The Republicans can be the New Democrats, And we can start a real Conservative party.

—Health care is a done-deal.

**This is far from over. The vote tonight is on the Senate version of the healthcare bill. There will be many changes/negotiations/bribes/whatever before the House and Senate bills combine, if they ever do.
+++++++++++++++++

Here are the steps that still need to happen and the points before and during which we must battle tooth and nail.

The end game for us is to stall this as long as possible.

The RATS have the opposite end game.

1. If it passes the Senate, then the separate House and Senate bills go to a joint conference committee where the two differing bills are merged into one bill. So our next targets are those committee members. The committee can cause it to die if they wish.

2. If it comes out of committee, then it goes back to the Senate and House for a final vote. At that point if we stop it in either House or Senate the thing is dead!

3. If however the bill is passed by both Senate and House it goes to Obama for his signature and it becomes law (the chances are absolute he will sign it)

4. Then we have the Court system to tie it up and I think there is a good chance the Supreme Court will strike it down. We must be prepared to support the most credible groups waging the legal battle. We can probably tie it up until the 2010 elections.

5. Then we have the 2010 and 2012 elections to elect enough new congressmen and a new president to overturn the legislation.

6. An uncooperative Congress will slow down and fowl up Obama’s schemes.

7. A freedom loving Congress might actually impeach Obama.
