Charles of WUWT offers a new and interesting theory of the file: that the file was not “stolen”, it was “found”.

Here’s his scenario.
The collation of files was made by the university in connection with the FOI appeal – an appeal that they were going to thoroughly document because of all the publicity during the summer. They then used the intranet server to share the file among interested parties for the FOI review on Nov 13.
And then between Nov 13 and Nov 17, someone came along and found this astonishing file sitting on the server. Sound impossible?
Read last summer’s posts on the “Mole” at CRU. Phil Jones had refused to provide station data claiming that it was covered by all sorts of confidentiality agreements (though he couldn’t find the agreements and couldn’t remember who they were with.
One day in late July, I discovered that they had left station data versions from 2003 and 1996 on their server – without webpage links but accessible all the same. They were stale versions of the requested data, but this data was supposedly hugely “confidential”. They were just sitting in cyberspace waiting for someone to download.
Charles hypothesizes that that’s what happened here. No hacker, no mole.
This theory could be disproved one way or another by the university’s FOI department. I’m sure that someone will ask them about their role, if any, in compiling the zip file.
Nah, they wouldn’t have put all their emails out there like that.
These emails were exported from a client. I can’t buy this one, plus they reported it to the police, that would be a false report, no?
Somewhere there is another file with a folder in it called “FOIB”
If you look at the zip, there is called FOIA.
What do you think this means, of course there is a “B” somewhere.
I have been searching all the ftp sites trying to find a zip file with a folder in it called FOIB. Its out there somewhere, we just need to find it before anyone else.

I don’t think the A stands for Act, otherwise the Zip file would have been FOIA2009.zip
I little deductive reasoning is required here.
We only call it “Act” here in the US. In the UK and Australia it’s just FOI.
Then why isn’t the file named FOIA2009.zip then?
I think someone separated two directories, A and B, Zipped up A and put it to a server.
B is still out there.
According to reports there should be 100mb out there.
If your theory is correct then why wouldn’t the first file be named FOIAA2009.ZIP and the other FOIAB2009.ZIP?
It’s not the file name, it is the folder name
Look at the directory.
.I thought the 62mb was the size of the compressed zip file and the un-zipped size was 100mb. But I may be as confused about this as FOI and FOIA.
Then again, someone may have the "B" directory and is waiting until the CRU principals "explain" their way out of the current email/data implications and then the mole/hacker/whistleblower unloads the "B" directory and it's a "Gotcha" moment. We can only hope...
Its alright, There are two people that have analyzed this that are better than me, they both said that there is 100mb missing.
I just have the theory that it is already out in the wild somewhere, just have to find it.
It looks like their approach now is to say the info was scheduled for release anyway because they were anxious, wink wink, to be forthcoming in response to the FOIA request. There’s really not much else one can say when such damning evidence is suddenly disclosed.
Sadly, even with this there are those who will cling to the global change idea and keep trying to solve a problem that no one can prove exists!

It’s one thing to gripe and complain about these things and disagree with it, but it’s quite another to convince your friends and neighbors and relatives and coworkers...
THEREFORE..., it’s also absolutely necessary for people to know the information in the following documentary. If there were simply one video that you could see and/or show people you know... this would be the one...
