Because once we dared dream, we drempt of freedom.
Then, as now, those dreams were for our children and our children’s children.
Because once we dared hope, we spoke of it amongst ourselves in whispers
in misty forests, candlelit cabins, trampled fields, and smokey taverns.
Because we had a deep and abiding faith that all men were created equal under heaven,
we summoned our courage and served notice on our oppressors.
Because once we understood that the yoke of Tyranny had become a weight too great to bear,
we struggled to breathe free.
Because once we knew that the tyrants refused to hear us though our voices were raised,
we united in a common purpose.
Because we united, we fought the good fight and won our freedom and our rights, but we forgot...
Freedom isn’t free.
Because we forgot, we allowed thieves to steal away what we fought and died for and now we dream of yesterday.
Because yesterday our forefathers taught us that a dream is only a dream if we do not act,
We must awaken.
Because America is our inheritance, freedom is our birthright, Americans must renew the dream, fight for it, and win.
Because we must win, we have thrown down the gauntlet to those who would hold our children hostage,
And we have joined Free Republic.
So very, very true. Some of us have grandchildren and even great-grandchildren making that *gauntlet* even larger.
