The Worst Kind Of Scheduling Conflict [Obama Address preempts Charlie Brown Christmas]
Morning Call ^ | November 30, 2009 | John L. Micek.

Posted on 12/01/2009 7:23:23 AM PST by PapaBear3625

President Barack Obama ... ... is slated to deliver a prime-time address on Tuesday night in which he'll lay out his plans for the American war in Afghanistan.

The address before the United States Military Academy at West Point on Tuesday night will not only be used to announce the immediate order to deploy roughly 30,000 more troops, but the administration will also use the occasion to convey how it intends to turn the fight over to the Kabul government, the New York Times reported.

But the administration may also face an unforeseen enemy as it lays out its long-awaited plans. And they are loud and they are legion: We're talking about preschoolers and their parents.

That's because ABC-TV was scheduled to present its annual screening of "A Charlie Brown Christmas" at 8 p.m. tomorrow night. And we don't know about you, but that show is pretty sacrosanct around our house and not to be trifled with lightly.

A call to the White House may be in order here. We hear it's pretty easy to get through these days ...

“But yeah, in a world where the average cartoon is about aliens at best and how great Wicca and living like a primitve to stop global warming are at worst, a show like this one is a nice change.”

Stop it. You’re destroying me... LOL

Another good point. Saturday mornings have become a barren wasteland haven’t they.

The music is one of the best examples I can think of in any genre of setting the mood for the show. It captures the atmosphere of a snowy day perfectly, and when I hear the accompaniment when Charlie Brown is walking home with his tree, I think of the anticipation of Christmas Eve when I was a kid. Of course, the fact that Linus gets it right, and tells everyone else, is now my favorite part, but the music is still great.

Not a problem in the Publisu6961 household.

I'd rather watch the Home Shopping Network than the First Doofus any time of the day.

I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with the Middle East Sandmaggots.
Obummer talks way too much.

...and says nothing...

I’ll take this time to point out that Obama grew up in Indonesia in a muslim/agnostic household to globetrotting parents.

Things like treasured Christmas specials aren’t the thing of his childhood. “What’s the big deal people?”

The black community make think “he gets us”, but he really DOESN’T “get” America. It is outside of his background (and I am not referring to birth papers).

Give it a shot, you’ll probably dig it. It far outshines any other Peanuts strip, cartoon or holiday special. It’s just a thoroughly decent, beautifully done bit of Christmas cheer.

If Zero’s trying to knock it off the air, there must be something good there.

Yukon Cornelius is an exception. He didn’t throw any punches. Santa, the elf choirmaster, the reindeer coach, the other reindeer, etc....they don’t come out looking so good. I like the Burl Ives snowman and King Moonracer, though. So I’m not entirely horrid.

LOL! We have all the Peanuts holiday shows on DVD.

Could my family come to your house to watch? Festive bonhomie notwithstanding, I know we won't be able to make ourselves watch an hour of political dissembling.

Fox reported that he’s already done about twice as many appearance is every category (televised addresses, TV interviews, press conferences) as Clinton and Bush 43 did in their first year.

Well, give my best to your four year old. I’m expressing my view and not trying to make her life miserable, or yours either for that matter.

Plenty of people here agree with you. That’s okay.

Don’t get too worked up over it.

“I can’t stomach shows like Leave It To Beaver for that reason (the goodie-goodie factor).”

#####

You don’t think, Eddie Haskell and Lumpy Rutherford were big enough pr!cks to provide relief from the wholesomeness?

Plus, Wally and the Beav got into plenty of trouble on their own.

-- I've been telling others that I am glad they enjoy the CB cartoons. I've found them to be consummately annoying. --

Not redeeming even to discover Vince Guaraldi's music?

I would suggest you read the thread. That wasn’t the only comment on the subject I’ve made here, and I think you’ll see that your comments weren’t quite as necessary as you might have thought they were when you posted them.

I realize a lot of folks think the CB cartoons were wonderful.

Just "A Charlie Brown Christmas" and "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown." True classics. The rest (including the Thanksgiving show) are loathsome.

That’s the difference between liberals and conservatives. Liberals want everybody to love them. Conservatives want everybody to respect them.................
