Palin Wrap-Up: The day's events [College of the Ozarks speech] (w/Videos)
KSPR-TV ^ | December 2, 2009 | Michelle Sherwood

There was a lot of anticipation leading up to Palin's speech. Many people--many women-- told KSPR seeing Sarah Palin in the flesh and off of TV is what they needed in order to see the big picture.

A long line of car lights lit up the night sky. A slow line on a bitterly cold evening couldn't keep away five thousand people. "I really want to hear her speak," said College of the Ozarks freshman Katie Petersen.

It's no surprise that those who love her came to the event. "I've been a big Sarah Palin fan ever since she started running with John McCain," said Petersen.

Even those on the fence still wanted to be near her. "I want to see her in person," said Joan Davis. "It's hard to tell when the media's saying one thing, and you see her on television. I don't think you get the true picture. I think seeing her in person, hearing her voice and hearing what she has to say makes a difference."

"It's a daring thing to do," said Petersen. She's proud that C of O made the move. "I really respect them to be able to bring her in because they've gotten a lot of criticism over this. But you know, it just doesn't matter."

Others told KSPR they were glad to see how the event showcased their Alma mater. Like many, they're C of O fans first, hoping that Palin brought in people who will, in turn, appreciate the school.

"I think it's a great thing that people know about us and are willing to come and see what we're about," said Miranda, a former alum.

"We're about values, good character, and we want to see that portrayed in our politicians," said Davis. "We hope that's what Sarah Palin's about."

Though few politicians are currently as popular as Mrs. Palin, you could argue she is not the most notable speaker at C of O. Margaret Thatcher, Colin Powell, Tony Snow, and Tom Brokaw, are just a few of the people who have given a speech there.

KSPR's senior producer, Ron Davis, had a coveted ticket to Sarah Palin's speech. He has the details about what went on inside. Click here to see that video.

I really wished I could have went to this. I have a few connections at College of the Ozarks, but couldn’t get my hands on any tickets.

Before she went to College of the Ozarks, she was at a local bookstore here in town doing the book tour thing. The book signing was Wednesday from 10AM-12PM. The line started at 2PM on Tuesday. Unfortunately, I was at work, or I would have tried to make that as well.

I have a bit of solace, though. A friend did get to meet her, and also has a signed copy. Lucky!

C of O was the perfect choice to host Sarah. Very conservative school. I am planning on my daughter attending the school in 10+ years.

I hope she has excellent security.

These are not normal times.

Great turnout for Sarah. I’m really proud of all these great Americans.

But the media can’t help themselves, trying to assert that the Palin camp only permitted “English speaking reporters” and they has to address her as ‘governor’. Then of course, they retract this by saying it was just a rumor.

Anyone who has seen raw video of Sarah can see how personable and decent she is with anyone who speaks to her. These reptilian bastards in the media are just going to have to like it.

Be forewarned that Ron Davis is a known political hack and Democrat operative. His blog: http://chatterbyrondavis.blogspot.com/

Michelle Sherwood is cut from the same relative cloth.

Her blog: http://michellesherwood.blogspot.com/

Do some quick searches of politics over the past four years or feelings about figures in the blogs and enjoy the reading.

I doubt most viewers know this about who writes and delivers the news for the area.

They are not as bad as the snarky, smug, biased KY3 reporter. He does a poor job of hiding his disdain:

(IMO he is always biased, although seems to be in a particular snit about the media ban. He sat in the bleachers several rows BEHIND me, haha.)

The line started at 2PM on Tuesday....The book signing was Wednesday from 10AM-12PM.

Never heard of a book signing tour where people did this. Yet, at each of Sarah's stops - we hear this over and over. And they put polls out to see where she rates! LOL! Don't believe polls, believe the people for they are speaking LOUDLY.

There are hardly any conservatives (or even moderates) in the jourbalism game.

Michelle Sherwood had the perfect voice for, uh, print. Sorta sounds like Mickey Mouse.

But I’m glad she shared with us that she’s lactose intolerant, b/c I had been losing sleep wondering about that. OMG.

If the USA had a recall mechanism (like California with Grey Davis) she’d probably be President by next Spring!

The College of the Ozarks is the ideal venue for Sarah Palin, it’s a Christian school that takes pride in calling itself “Hard Work U” where students “Don’t Pay Tuition, Work for an Education, Graduate Without Debt, and Learn Character”.

A model worth emulating and well worth checking out for college-age kids.

Completely agree with you. I know a few, though. And a couple who were at the event.

I want people to know and be aware of who they are reading and why the word choice and visualization was selected for the story.

Its too bad, really, because this is a very conservative part of the state. It is unfortunate we gotta put up with the news casts we do.

Didnt use to be that way until about five years ago.

Hadn’t read your post until after I posted but you will be steering your daughter in the right direction. After visiting C of O a couple of times my respect for what they do continues to grow. It’s a well-kept secret and of course would drive the elite liberals straight up a tree! A beautiful part of the country, too...

Without clicking on your link, I am going to guess that you are referring to Dave Cantanese?

He interviewed my friend who works for a large non-union packaging company. My FedUp friend was (and still is) fed up with everything, and showed up in his work clothes, no less. We made signs in the back of his truck. I am glad Dave picked my friend to do the interview; he probably thought he was getting an easy target. Unfortunately for Dave, my friend did very well, and discharged his liberal BS as good as you, I, or any of our FRiends could have expected to do.

Naturally, most of this was edited out for the broadcast, INCLUDING the one-sided baited questions that were asked.

In closing, Dave Cantanese can eat my crumb.

Three of my best teachers where I attended public school came from C of O. I hold them in very high regard (the school, and my teachers). I hope you follow through with your decision, as it is a very good one.

If only....

We would see the economy change on a dime instead of this evil dark cloud world we are living in now. And that's just for starters.
