The enemy at West Point
Washington Times ^ | December 4, 2009 | Editorial Staff

Posted on 12/04/2009 4:42:11 AM PST by IbJensen

nsults against West Point by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews are part of a pattern of left-wing denigrations against Americans serving in uniform. It's a motif indicative of an anti-military mind-set that is as dangerous as it is rude.

... Mr. Matthews quipped on Tuesday: "I saw a lot of, if not resentment, skepticism. I didn't see a lot of warmth in that crowd out there that the president chose to address tonight. And I thought that was interesting: He went to maybe the enemy camp tonight to make his case. I mean that was where Paul Wolfowitz used to write speeches back in the old Bush days. That's where he went to rabble-rouse the 'we're going to democratize the world' campaign back in '02. So I think it was a strange venue."

So, when did our brave military cadets become "the enemy camp"? If Mr. Bush or Mr. Wolfowitz went to West Point to "rabble-rouse," does that make the cadets a rabble? And why would it ever be a "strange venue" for any president to go to the U.S. Military Academy to talk about a war?

Mr. Matthews at least apologized to cadets for his stupid comments the next day without weasel words, but it's troubling that he even expressed such sentiments - which are shockingly common among some liberal Democrats. In 2006, Sen. John Kerry, Massachusetts Democrat, said: "You know, education, if you make the most of it, you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well. And if you don't, you get stuck in Iraq." At another point, the obtuse Mr. Kerry accused American soldiers in Iraq, in the "dead of night," of "terrorizing kids and children, you know, women. . .."

To set the record straight for confused Democrats, our armed forces are not criminals and not the enemy. They are heroes.

Be very careful leftist Democrats. A revolution is brewing.

Frankly, I wouldn’t be surprised if something very big happens before we get to the elections of 2010.

Sometimes apologies just aren't enough, they go to the very heart of what people think and stand for, and they need to be judged and dealt with accordingly. Fire Matthews!

Frankly, I'll be very surprised if something doesn't happen.

I never watch him because I find his demeanor, as well as his politics, nauseating.

Yes and, also, I doubt that Patriotic Americans out here put any credence in a apology coming from the likes of Chris Matthews. I would bet that many Americans feel that he and others like him are adversaries of the US, not the brave young people in training to become protectors of our nation at West Point. I once dated a West Point Cadet and I know something about the rigors of that education. Few leftists would qualify.

I can see several scenarios, but the one I think is most likely, goes like this:

1) All through 2009, the government underplays the economic situation and professes a belief that things are getting better. The exaggerate the good news.
2) In 2010, there is a double dip in the recession (perhaps a very serious one). Obama switches tactics and now exaggerates the bad news. Panic is intentionally spread and the word goes out that this is likely to be worse than the Great Depression.
3) Obama is granted emergency powers, including signifiant control over food supplies. We enter a state similar to martial law.
4) Somebody starts shooting at the other side, and the cities explode.
5) Constitution is suspended.

“The shot across the bow will be next year’s election(I hope)”

The question being: who’s bow will the shot be fired across? It may bot be the one most would hope for.

I just cannot see how any reasonable thinking person could pull the lever for these increasing psychotic liberal halfwits, let alone listen to the insane and hate-ridden rantings of the left’s mouthpieces. With each passing day, these nutjobs get increasingly hostile toward everything that is good and decent, and always with little or no consequences. Troubling...

Matthews is an idiot, that’s all there is to it.

Anyway, I have known `military liberals’; one of them was a West Point graduate. They find no inconsistency between the military and liberalism, since the latter is about centralized control, authoritarianism, fixed dogma, and the micromanaging of individuals’ lives. All these are necessary components of a military organization (ask any drill sergeant) but tend to be disastrous when applied against ordinary citizens.

Military liberals I have noticed are not great on innovation or unorthodox solutions. Now why could that be?

;^)

That's the same thing we said towards the end of the second Clintoon administration, and what the far left said near the end of the second GWB term.

Didn't happen then, but now, who knows?
