If you add #1 and #6 together, the interest in Climategate is much larger. I expect #6 is part of the skeptics research.
Here are the rankings:

1. Climategate: 28,400,000 – 2,930 = 9693
6. Climate change: 22,200,000 – 68,419 = 324

That would be adding apples and oranges. The 22 million hits for “climate change” are for those sites where the phrase “climate change” appeared and the word “climategate” may or may not have appeared.

I ran a google search for “climate change” where the word climategate also appeared and there were 2 million hits.

But those 2 million are already included in the 28 million hits for climategate alone.

Therefore the results are valid as they presented in the study.
