The Mystery of Harry Reid

How could such a thoroughly unappealing man have gotten so far in politics?

By JAMES TARANTO

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is at it again. FoxNews.com reports on his latest utterance in the debate over ObamaCare:

Reid argued that Republicans are using the same stalling tactics employed in the pre-Civil War era.
"Instead of joining us on the right side of history, all the Republicans can come up with is, 'slow down, stop everything, let's start over.' If you think you've heard these same excuses before, you're right," Reid said Monday. "When this country belatedly recognized the wrongs of slavery, there were those who dug in their heels and said 'slow down, it's too early, things aren't bad enough.' "
He continued: "When women spoke up for the right to speak up, they wanted to vote, some insisted they simply, slow down, there will be a better day to do that, today isn't quite right.
"When this body was on the verge of guaranteeing equal civil rights to everyone regardless of the color of their skin, some senators resorted to the same filibuster threats that we hear today."

There is little to say about the substance of this, other than to observe that he forgot to mention the Holocaust. But as a matter of form, Reid's statement is so bad as to be interesting.

Most obviously, someone who lashes out in such a clumsy and vicious way is not someone who feels confident that he will prevail. It's hard to imagine what Reid could be hoping to accomplish, other than perhaps rallying the Democratic left with a little partisan hate speech.

That's all I could post with out going over the excerpt guidelines.

It's well worth it to read the whole article at the link.

I particularly liked the subtitle:

How could such a thoroughly unappealing man have gotten so far in politics?

Or how could such a stupid man have gotten so far?

Harry's poll numbers for reelection are tanking but he just keeps trying to ram Obamacare through the Senate.

He was the Mobs boy when he was on the gaming commission in Nevada.

LOL how true!

The internet has them running scared, as illustrated from this quote from The New York Times:

“I used to firmly believe that the bully pulpit only had one microphone,” said Mike McCurry, White House press secretary for President Bill Clinton in the mid-1990s. “But in the age of new media, that’s probably changed. There is one ‘conversation’ in the mainstream media at any hour, but there are hundreds of them coursing across the Web.”
I made some words bigger...

Yup.

Once the commission was going to deny a mobster with a long list of felonies from getting a gaming license, but Dirty Harry gave it the go ahead.

He's still very well connected

Harry Reid is such a nothing as a human being that it’s even hard to think of silly pictures to make of him. He just doesn’t.... I don’t even know what. He just doesn’t.

What a wretched piece of filth.

It’s not just Harry Reid.
Thanks to the post-obama deluge and obvious scorn for the people and Constitution by the oligarchy, we are all getting to know up close the likes of Arlen Specter, Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Nan Pelosi, Steny Hoyer, Babs Boxer, Barney Frank, Henry Waxman... I could go on.

How could such miserable stupid arrogant people be elected time and time again?

Harry Reid summed up by the greats!

“He is not only dull himself, he is the cause of dullness in others.”
- Samuel Johnson

“Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go.”
- Oscar Wilde

There's just something about Harry. I'd guess he's totally unattractive to both sexes.

History is a bummy Harry - It was the democrats who were for slavery. They even filibustered the Civil Rights Bill.

I think we’d be joining you on the wrong side of history again, were we to go with your generational theft plan. It amounts to the economic enslavement of subsequent generations of Americans.

There are eggs in the ovaries of grandchildren that are going to owe close to $100K as soon as they are born.

As such, I’d have to vote ‘no’.

“How could such a thoroughly unappealing man have gotten so far in politics?”

At times this puzzles me as well. On the other hand, the Harpy, the Crypt Keeper and the Empty Suit perfectly defines and represents the modern Democrat Party.
