YOU ARE HERE: Home > Reports > Consular Affairs Bulletins > Report Warden Message: Baku Increased Security Awareness CONSULAR AFFAIRS BULLETINS Europe - Azerbaijan 11 Dec 2009

U.S. Embassy Baku issued the following Warden Message on December 11:

The Azerbaijani press is reporting that an Azerbaijani citizen, Azer Misirkhanov, was killed in a U.S. missile strike in Afghanistan.

Misirkhanov was said to be the commander of a paramilitary group in Afghanistan that was engaged in fighting U.S. and Afghan forces, and was also alleged to be a leader of a radical religious group in Azerbaijan. In addition, a trial of 31 of Misirkhanov's followers, accused of plotting a series of terrorist attacks, is scheduled to begin in Baku on December 17.

The U.S. Embassy in Baku does not have any evidence of a specific threat against Americans in Azerbaijan at this time. However, due to the high-profile nature of this news and the upcoming trial, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all Americans to monitor media reports, maintain a high level of vigilance, and to increase their security awareness, such as varying times and routes of routine travel."

Glad the one terrorist is dead.

I have to keep looking back and forth to check the names. Very confusing to me. I applaud the FNC reporters for pronouncing the names and locales.

Thanks, Cindy!

Wouldn’t it be great if their pic could be used in a story instead of their names??
I have trouble keeping them straight and God Bless the people who do!

This what I don’t understand...Arabic letters and english letters are different. Why would the guy mentioned in this post have his name spelled “Huseyn” while Saddam and the King of Jordan have their names spelled “Hussein”? It would seem to be to be the exact same word. There should be no correct way to spell a word in a different language that doesn’t even use english letters. There should only be a standard way of spelling a word that is pronounced a certain way.

I know! I thought they were just typos.

Drives me nuts and it’s a short drive lately..
