The most common form of theft in retail and restaurants, adding sales tax when it is not called for. A semi-large restaurant chain in WA state, has a practice of adding sales tax to beer and liquor sales in the lounge. When you call them on it, you will begin an argument that goes on into Spanish...hint hint. It is legal and necessary to charge sales tax in a seated restaurant, but if you sit at a booth in the bar, it is not. Think of difference if you sat at the bar, you order a beer for $3.00, you pay three dollars. Sit at a booth next to the bar, you pay $3.25. There is no getting through to the bar, and if you call the state DOR, they acknowledge the charges are improper, but after 10 years of it happening, they have not changed it. I know of this personally, because a G/F of mine works there....they simply make an .08%+ extra in profit in the bar than they report, and being minorities they get away with it. Of course this is in the state that refuses to tax the tribal casinos, does not allow gambling machines in off reservation bars, allows smoking on reservation, allows them to sell retail items and add sales tax but not give it to the state, and charge gasoline tax without authority, and keep it for “tribal roads”.....like they have roads not paid for by the state or the feds.
