Climate change emails row deepens as Russians admit they DID come from their Siberian server
Daily Mail Online ^ | 13th December 2009 | David Rose

The claim was both simple and terrifying: that temperatures on planet Earth are now ‘likely the highest in at least the past 1,300 years’. As its authors from the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) must have expected, it made headlines around the world. Yet some of the scientists who helped to draft it, The Mail on Sunday can reveal, harboured uncomfortable doubts. In the words of one, David Rind from the US space agency Nasa, it ‘looks like there were years around 1000AD that could have been just as warm’. Keith Briffa from the University of East Anglia’s Climatic Research Unit (CRU), which plays a key role in forming IPCC assessments, urged caution, warning that when it came to historical climate records, there was no new data, only the ‘same old evidence’ that had been around for years.

‘Let us not try to over-egg the pudding,’ he wrote in an email to an IPCC colleague in September 2006. ‘True, there have been many different techniques used to aggregate and scale data - but the efficacy of these is still far from established.’ But when the ‘warmest for 1,300 years’ claim was published in 2007 in the IPCC’s fourth report, the doubters kept silent.

It is only now that their concerns have started to emerge from the thousands of pages of ‘Warmergate’ emails leaked last month from the CRU’s computers, along with references to performing a ‘trick’ to ‘hide’ temperature decline and instructions to resist all efforts by the CRU’s critics to use the Freedom of Information Act to check the unit’s data and conclusions.

David Rind from the US space agency Nasa, it ‘looks like there were years around 1000AD that could have been just as warm’.

duh

I am no scientist. I have no letters after my name.

I'm a writer/artist. We tend to be nosy people who want to know everything about everything.

I am also from a generation that had real history in school as well as being taught HOW to think as apposed to WHAT to think. So I continued, after formal schooling, to read and research.

The history of the Eric the Red and his son Lief and the hundreds of Vikings that settled in Greenland, following Eric's exile, is well documented.

The population grew over the next 350 years with a robust trade with Europe. Then the climate started getting colder until the sea ice made it impossible to continue safe shipping and trade.

The land became too cold to sustain their way of life and many gave up and went to the mainland. The hardy hang ons numbered around 30,000 but, though theories abound (I have my favorite) no one is sure where they went or what happened to them...except that they 'disappeared.'

But did they learn their lesson? Did they give up their SUV's and switch to golf cart sized vehicles, painted white, that ran on corn?

Then, of course, there was that warming period in the Middle Ages that brought about the greatest period of prosperity - oh,no, we mustn't mention that!

But with these goricle scientists, I suspicion it isn't a case of not knowing. I suspicion it's an occupational hazard: faking data and bending the truth any which way needed to keep the gov't grants flowing. "Government Scientists" There can be no true science if the scientist is fed from the gov't teat.

When I hear others speak of an overwhelming majority of scientist, Galileo’s words come to mind...”In questions of science, the authority of a thousand is not worth the humble reasoning of a single individual.”

I don’t think the Russians “admitted” the information came from their servers. I think they “proudly proclaimed” it.

Not so shocking considering they were being harassed, cajoled, and threatened with their careers..

You know, good science and all..

Simply put, the sheer hubris and unscientific thinking that has to go into believing that today’s climate is the “correct” one hasn’t been seen since the consensus view that the Earth was the center of the universe.

Indeed. But at least those who held the earth to be the center of the universe at least had as support the fact that everything sure looked to be whirling around the earth.

Global Warming Folks don’t even have that.

The Russians do have an alterior motive for hacking these emails. The Russians want hundreds of billions (Possibly trillions) of dollars/Euros in carbon credits for the economic hard times of the 1990’s.
