Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger described Friday's attack on the home of the University of California at Berkeley's chancellor as a "type of terrorism" that will not be tolerated.
Protesters angry about budget cuts and fee hikes vandalized Chancellor Robert Birgeneau's home on campus at about 11 p.m. Friday night, according to the university.
"California will not tolerate any type of terrorism against any leaders, including educators," Schwarzenegger said in a statement released Saturday.
He added that the incident was a criminal act, and participants will be prosecuted under the fullest extent of the law.
. . .
At about 11 p.m. Friday, 40 to 70 protesters stormed Birgeneau's home on the north side of the campus and smashed planters, windows and lights while shouting, "No justice, no peace," according to the school's Web site. They also reportedly threw flammable objects into the home.
Eight people were arrested for rioting, threatening an education official, attempted burglary, attempted arson of an occupied building, felony vandalism, and assault with a deadly weapon on a police officer

At least two of the eight arrested are Berkeley students. And some folks just like an excuse to riot.
“Type” of terrorism?
Is that libtard PC language for a “manmade act”? =.=
Another act of terrorism conducted by a liberal.
Somebody better tell Janet Napolitano.
Interesting these libs get all huffy about their tuition increase yet they aren't concerned about all the other initiatives the Democrats are pushing through. (Missing the forest for the trees?)
And these are the the type of people we are financing an education for with OUR tax dollars.
what did he call Ft Hood?
Great point. If ZeroCare passes they will be paying through the roof for health insurance to subsidize the old folks.
Not only that, the state has to pay for the damage.
Yes, home-grown terrorism just like Nancy Pelosi was was warning everyone about, right?
A PR disaster for the "students" AND the University.
By the end of the week the public won't be able to distinguish the students from Taliban homicide bombers.
Maybe we’ll get lucky and Berkley will finish being sucked up its own ass.
Or maybe we’ll get unlucky and the feds will bail out the failing state of California.
You wanted “Change” America. How’s it working out for you?
Nothing to see here, Leftists. Just some Berkeley agitators/students keeping it real and sticking it to ‘the man’.
Can we bring `em to NYC `n put `em on trial?
William Ayers is shaping our nation.
Attacks like this now considered community activism.
The daily, never-ending attacks against plain old citizens by the illegals that are high up on the list as the root cause for California's financial clusterf*ck are just A-OK with the Governator one must assume, though!?
The ratio of students to non-students reminds one of the free speech movement at Berkeley in the 1960s. The first great riot led to the arrest of some 950 miscreants. Students made up less than 50 of that total. The majority were local radicals, a large percentage of which were Red Diaper Babies from the East Coast.
That’s probably the same with this group. They need to investigate that and point it out. The ones who are students need to be required to pay back their portion of the damage before they can continue their education and those who are not students can either pay or work it off.
And why are they still students at that college today?
$3 Million Extravagant, Arrogant Spending by UC President Yudof for UCBerkeley Chancellor Birgeneau to Hire Consultants - When Work Can Be Done Internally
These days, every dollar counts. Contact Senate (Ms. Romero 916.651.4105) & Assembly (Ms. Brownley 916.319.2044) Chairpersons Education Committees or your representatives.
Do the work internally at no additional costs with UCB Academic Senate Leadership (C. Kutz/F. Doyle), the world class UCB faculty/ staff, & the UCB Chancellors bloated staff (G. Breslauer, N. Brostrom, F. Yeary, P. Hoffman, C. Holmes etc) & President Yudof.
President Yudofs UCB Chancellor should do the high paid work he is paid for instead of hiring expensive East Coast consults to do the work of his job. World class smart executives like Chancellor Birgeneau need to do the hard work analysis, and make the tough-minded difficult, decisions to identify inefficiencies.
Where do the $3,000,000 consultants get their recommendations?
From interviewing the UCB senior management that hired them and approves their monthly consultant fees and expense reports. Remember the nationally known auditing firm who said the right things and submitted recommendations that senior management wanted to hear and fooled the public, state, federal agencies?
$3 million impartial consultants never bite the hands (Birgeneau/Yeary) that feed them!
Mr. Birgeneau’s accountabilities include “inspiring innovation, leading change.” This involves “defining outcomes, energizing others at all levels and ensuring continuing commitment.” Instead of deploying his leadership and setting a good example by doing the work of his Chancellors job, Mr. Birgeneau outsourced his work to the $3,000,000 consultants. Doesn’t he engage UC and UC Berkeley people at all levels to examine inefficiencies and recommend $150 million of trims? Hasn’t he talked to Cornell and the University of North Carolina - which also hired the consultants — about best practices and recommendations that will eliminate inefficiencies?
No wonder the faculty, staff, students, Senate & Assembly are angry and suspicious.
In todays economy three million dollars is a irresponsible price to pay when a knowledgeable world-class UCB Chancellor and his bloated staff do not do the work of their jobs.
