EDITORIAL: Black Panther battle intensifies- Is the Justice Department against civil rights?
WASHINGTON TIMES ^ | December 14, 2009 | WASHINGTON TIMES

The dispute between the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights and the Justice Department is starting to look like the legal equivalent of World War II's Anzio campaign, which represented a major escalation late in the war. The battleground is the controversy about the department's decision to drop voter-intimidation cases against members of the New Black Panther Party. The commission is mounting a massive legal assault; Justice is refusing to be budged; and the casualties could be high.

The shame of it is that the department itself would be well-served if it would merely cooperate. That's what it would do if it were confident its decision was correct.

For six months, various members of Congress and the commission have been asking for cooperation from the Justice Department. The basic questions are simple enough: On what legal basis did Justice drop these cases, which it effectively already had won? Who were all the officials at Justice (and possibly the White House) who were involved in the decision? And does the decision represent a shift in enforcement policy concerning voting rights?

The Justice Department stonewalled at almost every turn or provided false information. For instance, department official Portia Robinson wrongly claimed that New Black Panther defendant Jerry Jackson "was a resident of the apartment building where the polling place was located" (and thus presumably had more of a right to loiter there). If the department can't even figure out that Mr. Jackson, a visibly fit age 53, doesn't live in a senior assisted-living facility, its overall reliability surely is questionable.

The Justice Department is NOT against all civil rights. It only opposes the rights of White Christian heterosexuals.

Wondering why the the civil rights commission is doing this?

The members serve 6 year terms and so many are holdovers:

4 are republicans, 2 are dems, 2 are independents.

Maybe the whitehouse could have a beer summit?

Black Panthers and white voters that were barred from voting might share a beer and some jokes with Mohammed Obama?

I didn't know that intimidation and threats were civil rights....wow.

I'm guessing the truth is, anything blacks want to do automatically becomes a civil right. Wow, and they say whites are priveledged.

How will the subpoenas be enforced? Doesn't DOJ normally represent the Executive Branch in such matters? In this case, I suspect Obama is playing for time until he can either replace the majority on the Commission, or simply have it defunded by the Democrat majority in Congress. This is just another step in the delegitimizing of our legal system and its conversion into an arm of illegitimate state control.

So what can happen to the Justice Department for ignoring Congressional subpoenas? Shouldn’t Holder be in jail right now?

The communists takeover of our Government will eventually encompass the entire justice system.

Holder is caught in a classic escalating cover-up that has spun out of control.

This one will snap him eventually.

Anyone not born yesterday who has seen the pics of the thugs intimidating voters will agree it has been swept under the rug.

Look, we have to undestand that Holder can;t coopertae with the CRC, nor can he prosecute the BPs. The reason is that they need the BPs and their election fraud aparatus in place to win Nov. 2010.

This is about fraud in the next election.Obama wants his thugs ready to go in November.A high profile case where the BPs get prosecuted won’t work for the Leftists campaign. Thats why they are NOT prosecuted and why Holder is not cooperating with the CRC.And the want the whole issue OUT of the public eye.

Kudos to the CRC!!!!

Let’s assumed he lived there. Then he can confront and intimidate people coming to vote because he’s just loitering? This crap is so convoluted DOJ cannot see the truth from where they are.

So what happens when they show at the polls doing the same thing in November? Calling the cops might work, or it might not. Sounds like our polling stations will need securitym but from who? The people themselves?

“Sounds like our polling stations will need securitym but from who? The people themselves?”

I have been thinking of volunteering as a local poll watcher. Am thinking that those who wish to rig the system are already there and are free-handed to work without watchers.

If thousands more do likewise, this should diminish the possibility.

Yes, the people patrol for themselves.

If you see these idiots at the polling stations, bring friends and film them. Give them a respectful distance but don’t tolerate their BS. If they look like they are eye fornicating other voters, call them on it. They HATE that, and will soon lose self control. Be ready to defend yourself and prosecute them.

I still hold out the faint possibility that there may, just may, be a smattering of rats with a conscience out there...

probably just a dream....

The commission's letter notes that the department fully cooperated with a commission subpoena in 2004; the unuttered follow-up question is: So why not this time?

It starts with an "O," ends with an "A," and goes BAM! This case has some interesting potential.

To answer a few of your questions, you can volunteer (or be hired, rather,) to become an election judge or clerk. I was an election judge back in college, and had I seen anything like that, I would have had them arrested immediately. At the very least their activity would have been considered electioneering.
