Billion people's water at risk from melting ice: Gore

COPENHAGEN — Climate guru Al Gore warned UN climate talks Monday that record melting of Polar and Himalayan ice could deprive deprive more than a billion people's access to clean water.

Adding to an avalanche of bad scientific news over the last two years, the former US vice president cited new research showing that the Arctic ice cap may have shrunk to record-low levels last year.

"2008 had a smaller minimum, probably, than 2007," Gore said at the release of a report he co-sponsored with the Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Store, called Melting Snow and Ice: A call for Action.

"These figures are fresh, I just got them yesterday," Gore said, alluding to work led by Wieslaw Maslowski of the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California.

He really did lose his mind after Bush beat him in Florida, didnt he? Remember the beard phase,,,i think he actually lost his mind.

I think of Gore, like Salieri in "Amadeus" in the asylum.

1 metre by years end? Cool, that means I can buy cheap Gulf beach property just South of Sinton, Tx. just in time for a New Years beach party.

Check again, Al. Unless your "fresh" figures have been conveniently 'vaule-added' by the CRU.

If the polar ice cap up north completely melts the rise in the oceans level will be zero cm. The northern ice cap is floating ice. It displaces exactly as much water to keep it floating as it would replace when it melts. To prove this fill a glass with ice and water so some ice is floating above the glasses lip. What happens when the ice melts? Meanwhile the southern ice cap is getting thicker.

Most con men run and hide after their scam is revealed

I'm still trying to decide if Al is:

1) A bumbling Idiot that failed out of Divinity School, used his Daddy's coattails to get what he wanted, and lost an election that very well could have been won by a Wooden Indian. OR

2) A very shrewd conman that used a failed presidential election campaign to build a sucker list of millions of constituents from which to bilk 10's of millions of dollars.

I don't think that he's both. It's an either-or type thing.

I wish I had one of those advanced degrees in Science like Gore has. Oh, that’s right. He flunked out of Divinity School. Never mind.

I was just talking to my next door neighbor. She is NH born and raised and disgusted with all of this Global Warming. "Seems to come earlier every year."

She and her Husband are heading South when they retire, Both Republicans. I suggested Texas, The Hill Country, I think that Idaho might be a little cool for them.

...this one wants to milk it for every last drop....

Reminds me of Enron. Crooks telling suckers to buy more Enron stock while they are shorting, right to the end to when the federal investigators stepped in. I would pay to see Algore and James Hanson frogmarched.

“... a global sea level rise of about a metre by year’s end,....”

Yeah,,, like at the restaurant the other day. I didnt drink my ice tea,,, and the floating ice melted, and the glass overflowed onto the table. (sarc)

Melting of floating ice doesnt raise the water level,,AlGore.

Gore's still trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. He changes personalities several times a decade. He's been a divinity student, rode with the Hell's Angels, the earnest Viet Nam vet, the Dixiecrat senator, the inside the beltway fundraiser, the melting down Presidential candidate, the professorial intellectual, and now, the flakey prophet.

He may be getting close to his last incarnation, as he gets a little nuttier each time.

To continue my Long John Nebel analogy, I recall lying awake listening to mim slowly lay out a claim that teh Empire State Building had been constructed with giant ball bearings in its foundation, and the building was slightly shifted during the night. First it was some national security reason, then it was to improve the radio tower’s reception. He was so good he had me maybe 45% thinking it could be true.

Then he started saying that if you went there late at night the shops on one street would have shifted to the other.

It’s very easy to make stuff up and to take facts from real sources and twist them or to echo the BS of fellow charlatans.

They do this on Coast to Coast very well. Gore is doing the same thing.

Warning from Gore on future - S.F. speech focuses on global warming
San Francisco Chronicle (CA) - Sunday, June 5, 2005
Author: Cecilia M. Vega, Chronicle Staff Writer

EXCERPT

In 15 years, Gore said , there will be no more glaciers on Mount Kilimanjaro. As for Glacier National Park in Montana, he said, “Within 20 years, this is the park that will be formerly known as Glacier.” And the Rhone Glacier in Switzerland “is almost completely gone,” he said.

GORE’S ENVIRONMENTAL STAKE - WHITE HOUSE STANCE ON GLOBAL WARMING COULD SERIOUSLY AFFECT POLITICAL CLIMATE TOO
Washington Post - Tuesday, October 21, 1997
Author: Joby Warrick, Washington Post Staff Writer
Al Gore was moving fast, as though the big glacier would melt before he reached it. With reporters puffing and wheezing in his wake, he scaled five miles of nearly vertical mountain trails to touch the ice and strike a symbolic blow against global warming.

“It’s melting right before our eyes,” the vice president observed as he stood above Grinnell Glacier , the great river of ice amid the jagged peaks of Glacier National Park. Another 30 years of warming will reduce Grinnell to a dirty puddle, Gore said — and future tourists will have to settle for “the park formerly known as Glacier .”

Why not add that “If the ice caps melt, then advanced civilazations from galaxies far away won’t be able to land their spacecraft.”
Because that wouldn't be true.
