Single-payer health care plan dies in Senate

WASHINGTON -The liberals' longtime dream of a government-run health care system for all died Wednesday in the Senate, but Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont vowed it will return when the realization dawns that private insurance companies "are no longer needed." Sanders, an independent and socialist, said his approach is the only one "which eliminates the hundreds of billions of dollars in waste, administrative costs, bureaucracy and profiteering that is engendered by the private insurance companies." His remarks drew handshakes and even a hug or two from Democrats who had filed into the Senate to hear him. Sanders acknowledged the proposal lacked the votes to pass, and he chose to withdraw it after Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla., exercised his prerogative and required Senate clerks to begin reading the 767-page proposal aloud to a nearly empty chamber. After three hours, they were 139 pages into it. The political theater came as the White House and Senate Democrats sought an agreement with Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., to become the 60th supporter of President Barack Obama's health care overhaul — the number needed to overcome a Republican filibuster. The Nebraska lawmaker told reporters he was reviewing a proposal to toughen abortion restrictions in the legislation, one of the changes he is seeking. Nelson said the compromise negotiated by anti-abortion Sen. Bob Casey, D-Pa., involves attempt to separate private and public funds, an approach that in the past failed to sway the Nebraska moderate and Catholic bishops. Asked whether the new language was satisfactory, Nelson said, "I don't know at this point in time. Constituency groups haven't responded back yet." Nelson emerged as the lone known holdout among 60 Democrats and independents earlier in the week after Sen. Joe Lieberman, I-Conn., forced supporters of the bill to remove a proposed Medicare expansion.

I was talking with a young college grad nitwit about this the other day and he responded with "yeah but there hasn't been a REAL socialist country yet.." - sigh -

I almost have to laugh, but it's ineffably sad to see what happens to people possessed by Utopian fantasies. Just remember (and feel free to tell those who need to know): To the Left: Capitalism will always be judged by its worst examples; Socialism is only judged by its promises. Capitalism is held to a standard of perfection; Socialism fails only because people have not yet been perfected.

When people come to accept that human beings are not perfectible and that the purpose of government is to ensure liberty, not obedience are they able to truly live and let live.

“The Tiger Woods Stamp of Approval

......not too hasty here

(AP) In a bold move, President Obama attempted to hang the bad economy on Tiger Woods.

” These rich oriental-Americans just don’t get it. 120 million a year, buys a lot of Bud Light, right? But not for the ACORNS of the world. Not for the disenfranchised! Not for the illegal immigrants! We need to even the playing field on the golf course of America!

I may be coming down with a New Gnu Flu....

“When people come to accept that human beings are not perfectible ...”

That is the crux of it, isn’t it?

The rejection of the idea that humans can be made into Gods.

I fear that this will be the basis of the “lie” or “great delusion” that will fall across the entire world in end times.

It is just incredible that these A holes never think once about all the private sector jobs that would be eliminated.
It’s like if they aren’t government jobs, they don’t exist.

I believe that has always been the central idea dividing Left from Right. We believe that human beings are imperfect by their nature, because they were created as beings of volitional consciousness: we choose to see what we see; hear what we hear; feel what we feel. Objective reality exists external to our own devices. Those on the Left, either directly or implicitly believe that reality is simply a human construct. Our organizing principle is the right of the individual to life, liberty and property; theirs is the right of the group to define what limits pertain to all.

Without a whimper from all of those that work in the industry, anyone in congress on either side, or ANYONE in the media. Just incredible!

I don’t believe health insurance company greed or mismanagement is the largest factor in rising healthcare costs.

I believe Medicare and Medicaid are the largest factors.

The US population is aging and more people as a percentage are required ny law to be on Medicare.

The deep recession is bring more and more people as a percentage onto Medicaid.

The health insurance companies are forced to subsidize doctors, clinics and hospitals who lose money from forced medicare and medicaid operations. Doctors, clinics and hospitals are poorly reimbursed from Medicare. And doctors cannot refuse to see their patient who recently turned 65 and is now required to be on Medicare.

Often doctors who have practices that become too weighted with Medicare patients, they are forced to retire or move to a different area and start over. They can refuse to see a new patient who is covered by Medicare, but they can’t refuse to see a patient who turns 65 and becomes a Medicare patient.

So what doctors, clinics and hospitals do is bill under every code and also they practice defensively to avoid lawsuits. Those factors together with an aging population are likely the single greatest cause of rising health premiums.

It’s not dead...single-payer is the inevitable result of the creation of 111 bureaucracies, as are created in the Senate reform bill. The bill describes a system that is so incomprehensible, Byzantine, and medieval, that the only result will be a single-payer system, as ALL the Dems, especially Obama, want.

Wow, most college grads I know are focused square on the reality of having getting shafted by paying for a college education that hasn’t helped them in the least in getting a real job so that they can start a real life. Not one youngster in my acquaintance is sighing over whether socialism exists— they are more concerned about what the heck this government is getting ready to do to their generation with all the taxes and debts!!!
