“El Salvador applauds Migratory Reform proposal in USA”

Subheading: The Salvadoran Chancery has estimated that the initiative that senator (sic) Gutierrez supports is an integral migratory reform, more humane, compassionate and comprehensive.

The Ministry of Foreign Relations of El Salvador has applauded the introduction of a law proposal for an Integral Migratory Reform in the United States. The initiative is promoted by the United States congressman for Illinois, Luis Gutierrez. The document was presented yesterday in the Chamber of Representatives of the Congress of the United States of America.

In recognizing the trajectory of Gutierrez regarding the defense of the rights of migrants in the United States of America, El Salvador manifests its support for this migratory reform proposal that aims for millions of Central American migrants, and from other parts of the world, to have an opportunity to legalize their status, reunify their families and continue contributing to the communities where they reside. The Salvadoran Chancery has estimated that the initiative reflects a component of El Salvador’s migratory policy, which has been discussed with members of the American Congress, in the sense of establishing a more humane, compassionate and comprehensive integral migratory reform, such that it may include persons who don’t have a definitive legal status in the United States, and that seeks to deal with all the problems of the migratory issue. The government of El Salvador, together with other governments of the Central American region, sees this initiative as a positive and important step in the primordial purpose of caring for the rights and welfare of the fellow countrymen who reside abroad.

The Mexican immigrant community in Illinois received the integral migratory reform initiative proposed by Representative Luis Gutierrez as an important step and one better structured to obtain the legalization of those who are undocumented. Community leaders said that the success of this proposal will depend on an intense labor of convincing both inside and outside Congress. Artemio Arreola, political director of the Coalition pro Rights of Immigrants and Refugees (“ICIR”,) said that “Now, the first objective is to get the support of 100 congressmen in the next few days.” He added, “The participation of the community is required for this, in an intense campaign of forwarding fax, text messages and phone calls to request support from the legislators and from the (American) President, Barack Obama, himself.” Further, the immigrants must be organized to defend and promote it, for which reason ICIR is preparing informative meetings with the different immigrant communities in Illinois. “Anti-Narcotics Police” seized 5.21 metric tons of cocaine from a shipment being readied at the port city of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The drug was mixed with fruit pulp supposedly about to be sent to Europe. Three men, a Frenchman, a Colombian and an Ecuadoran, were arrested. Cocaine seizures in Ecuador have reached more than 67 metric tons this year. An official said that 41 tons were seized in 2005, in 2006 it was 35, in 2007 it reached 26 tons and in 2008, 30 tons.

Last Tuesday night (15th), near midnight, a group of 35 armed men overpowered security guards at a Standard Fruit Company banana plantation in Isletas, Honduras. That facility has a landing strip. Then, an aircraft reportedly loaded with cocaine landed; the intruders unloaded it and completely burned the plane on the spot. Arturo Beltran Leyva, aka “El Barbas” & “El Jefe de los Jefes”, head of the Sinaloa cartel, died Wednesday evening during an hours-long shootout with Mexican marines at Cuernavaca, state of Morelos. Six other allies of Beltran also died, including one of his own brothers. One marine was killed and others were wounded. Mexico’s Dep’t. of Justice had offered a reward of 30 million pesos for reliable, true and timely information for Beltran’s capture. Arturo Chavez, Mexico’s Att’y. Gen., said that an intense wave of violence for control of the cartel could not be discarded. Edgar Valdez, “La Barbie,” the cartels’ financial chief, managed to escape during the firefight. He is foreseen as the new head of the criminal organization.

Beltran reportedly died amidst weapons and religious and luxury articles. There were religious cards, scapulars, thousands of dollars, a Bible, an image of the Virgin Mary and, in Beltran’s trousers, a bag of Santeria. An accomplice, who shot and killed himself rather than being captured, had a rosary around his neck.

Two human heads were found near midnight last night (Wed.) near Las Yeguas, Paracuaro, in the area known as the “Tierra Caliente” of Michoacan. One of the heads had two severed fingers placed in the mouth; the other head had four of them. A message left with those remains read: “This is how the fingers who double cross La Familia will end. Greetings. Rufo. Alvarado. Respectfully, La Familia”

Fourteen more persons were murdered in Ciudad Juarez yesterday, including one policeman and two truck drivers. A faculty member of the Juarez Technological Institute was also wounded by gunfire in what is believed to have been a kidnapping attempt. At report time, he was being operated on in an attempt to save his life. [“Norte” – another Juarez paper – later reported that he had died.]

A communiqué by a spokesman for Joint Operation Culiacan/Navolato reveals the following seizures by Mex. military from Dec. 9 to 15 in various operations around the state of Sinaloa:

December 18, 2009 Exclusive: Amnesty Would Put Further Strain on Our Struggling Economy

Michael Cutler An article by Stephen Dinan published this week by the Washington Times describes how members of the Congress are absolutely refusing to represent the best interests of the citizens of our nation and are, even as so many Americans are unemployed or under-employed, pushing for a massive amnesty program known as "Comprehensive Immigration Reform."

I have consistently opposed Comprehensive Immigration Reform for a number of important reasons. First and foremost, of course is the national security issue. There is no way that the beleaguered adjudicators at USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services), the agency that would administer this insane program, would be able to reliably know anything about the millions of illegal aliens who would undoubtedly seek to acquire lawful immigrant status and ultimately, United States citizenship through Comprehensive Immigration Reform.

They have no official documentation to substantiate their true names or even their true nationalities. Therefore, there is no reliable way of determining if these illegal aliens – whose simple presence in our country represents a violation of our nation's laws and borders – are fugitives from justice in other countries. There is also no reliable way of knowing if these illegal aliens are affiliated with criminal or terrorist organizations.

There is also no reliable way of knowing when these illegal aliens entered the United States. They will have, no doubt, used one or more, stolen or fictitious identities, making it all but impossible to know when, where or how they actually entered the United States without a full field investigation. Yet with the huge numbers of illegal aliens involved and the small number of agents available to deal with the onslaught of applications, all that will be done under the auspices of “Comprehensive Immigration Reform” is a "background check."

A background check does not entail having investigators knocking on doors and interviewing those who might know these illegal aliens – it simply requires that the applicant's fingerprints and name he provides on the application be run through a computerized database. If the fingerprints come up "clean" – that is to say they do not match any known criminal and if the name provided by the applicant is fictitious – then the system would automatically clear the alien for a temporary identity document that would immediately enable that alien to apply for and receive a Social Security card, a driver's license and other such documents.

Consider too that the unscrupulous employer who intentionally hires illegal aliens does so in order to exploit their vulnerability. This sort of employer generally pays the illegal aliens substandard wages under substandard and, indeed, all too often illegally hazardous conditions. In many instances these employers fail to make the appropriate payments to Workman's Compensation and other such payments. This is all about greed.

Illegal aliens are certainly easy to exploit because they are desperate to secure any job that they can so that they can send their money to their families back home. This, of course, raises the issue of the fact that every year foreign workers, both legal and illegal, seek to send as much money out of country and our nation's economy as possible. It has been estimated that more than $100 billion is wired or otherwise sent from the United States to other countries around the world by foreign workers. This is money that is lost to our economy. This is money that is not spent in the United States and not invested in the United States. This is money that is not earned by American citizens or lawful immigrants.

As insane as all of this is, I want to take a moment to explain another aspect of Comprehensive Immigration Reform that is seldom, if ever discussed. This is not speculation, but actually occurred in the wake of the Amnesty of 1986.

When aliens who had previously been illegally present in the United States were granted lawful status, they were no longer exploitable. In many cases, these previously illegal aliens approached their employers and told them that they would certainly want to continue working for them but that they now wanted to be paid prevailing wages. They wanted the appropriate deductions taken from their salaries. They wanted to be compensated appropriately for working overtime and on weekends.

In short, these previously vulnerable aliens were no longer vulnerable and demanded fair and equitable treatment by their employers. In many of these instances, guess what happened? The employers fired these now-legal aliens and hired the next wave of illegal aliens!

Stop and ask yourself the very obvious question: "What would happen if 10 million or 20 million legalized aliens demanded proper wages and working conditions?"

You guessed it.

Here are some obvious follow-up questions:

* How much would unemployment and welfare cost our government to care for the newly unemployed legalized aliens? * How much would this further drive wages down as too many workers would be forced to chase far too few jobs? * How many of the displaced workers would be members of the various minority groups in the United States?

Comprehensive Immigration Reform is nothing more than an attempted power grab by politicians who do not give a damn about anything or anyone but themselves and their quest for power.

Rep. Lamar Smith, the Ranking Member of the House Judiciary Committee and former Chairman of the House Immigration Subcommittee, demonstrates common sense and leadership borne of his concerns for the plight of the average American. He is quoted in the Times article linked above:

"With 15 million Americans out of work, it's hard to believe that anyone would give amnesty to 12 million illegal immigrants," said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee. "Even the open-borders crowd agrees that illegal immigrants take jobs from American workers, particularly poor and disadvantaged citizens and legal immigrants. This is exactly why we need to oppose amnesty."

Where illegal aliens and health care are concerned, all too many of our government representatives apparently favor a policy we have heard about before on another matter –"Don't ask: don't tell!"

A country without secure borders can no more stand than can a house without walls.

6 bodies found near north Mexico tourist resort

MEXICO CITY — Police found six bullet-ridden, decomposing bodies Friday near a highway leading to a Mexican resort on the Gulf of California.

The six men were found half-buried on a dirt road off the highway frequently used by tourists from Arizona to reach the Puerto Penasco resort, widely known as Rocky Point, according to Sonora state police.

The men’s identities and the motive for their killing have not been established. Shell casings from an assault rifle — a weapon favored by Mexico’s violent drug cartels — were found nearby.

In the Sonora border city of Nogales, state police found a man’s body in a plastic container bearing drug-related messages.

And the Mexican army reported Friday that four suspected drug traffickers and two local policemen were killed Thursday night in a shootout with soldiers in General Zuazua, a town in the outskirts of the northern city of Monterrey.

Two policemen apparently had been protecting the traffickers, the army statement said.

Soldiers found a list with names of local policemen who may have been on the payroll of the drug gang, the army said. They also found more than 1,320 pounds (600 kilograms) of marijuana and several guns at the scene.

Also Friday, gunmen killed Pedro Picasso, assistant football coach of Mexico first-division team Indios, in the border city Ciudad Juarez, said Jacinto Segura, a spokesman for the local prosecutor’s office.

A second, unidentified person also died in the shooting at a cell phone shop. Segura gave no motive, and it was unclear who was the target of the attack.

Bystanders often get caught in the middle of drug gang battles that have made Ciudad Juarez the most violence city in Mexico and one of the deadliest in the world.[snip]
