I beg to differ. The Sixteenth and Seventeenth Amendments must be repealed and the Fourteenth could use some revision (anchor babies).

Then try to pass amendments to repeal those,(as was done to the 18th) but a convention is an open invitation to disaster. Congress will not look upon a convention as a "threat", but rather a gift to remove whatever (few) restraints the Constitution already imposes.

Not if the states have chosen their governors prudently, the same requirements for repealing an amendment.

I do believe our chances of forming a coalition of conservative governors is more likely that of conservative senators.

It has been a long time since the Constitution imposed any limitations on Congress.

Chances of either are remote. In truth, bloodshed will probably be required.

"This is war, you people."

If only more people realized that.

Well, it’s this way. There is nothing that one congress can do that another congress can’t take back. However, the question is always WILL the hypothetical future republican congress repeal it, or have the guts to change the rule back. From what we’ve seen in this decade, it’s arguable.

Remember the Republican congress that was going to defund the UN, back in '95?

I’m not positive but I think yes either house could refuse to pass any funding for this and it would not be able to be implemented.

Whether a GOP house in 2011 would have the political will or not I don’t know?

For repeal you’d need a President that would sign it and a Congress that would pass repeal, meaning 2013 at the earliest. The nuclear option would be required in the Senate as I don’t think even large gains in both 2010 and 2012 would give the GOP 60 seats, especially when you factor in the liberal RINOs who might decide to oppose repeal.

I don’t think any major social program has EVER been repealed in this country.

Anyhow we are fretting already and they are celebrating already but this has not passed yet. Getting the house to reject the final bill is very possible.

Democrats plan is to ramp up this type of spending and then when Republicans take power and try to cut or repeal accuse them of killing (death panels) the middle class to save the rich a few dollars. We all know Republicans won't dare try that as they have shown always. This is why it is necessary that democrats have just enough power to look like they are responsible for the deficit for the time being.

As far as Health reform goes, the Senate bill is very unpopular and is poison to both the grassroots right (us) and the grassroots left (Progressives) much like TARP. It is time to put left-right divisions apart (contrary to talk radio talking points) and defeat this bill and democrats in the process.
