Good observation. In the mid 1970’s refugees from Vietnam came to my hometown of Fargo, ND. Within 10 years the best students in the high schools were those children who came over as refugees or later on the children of those refugees.
I also don’t recall any spike in the crime rate when those refugees arrived.
They came here too, one positive was the number of cats in the neighborhood went into rapid decline.
Then there is Lewiston or wherever and the wierdly dressed folks who seem to work all over. Creepy man, creepy as heck.
The Missus and I have done the summer in Maine thing for twenty years and in the I hope very distant future, will make our last trip in an urn to a place in the northwoods.

The Vietnamese seem to do quite well here.
The Laotions are another story. Criminal gangs abound.
