Yesterday on CNN, the anchor claimed that the average unemployed worker has been unemployed for 27 straight months now. Doesn’t that seem impossible?

UE has been rising since about mid 2007. It just wasn't reported. I recall a local news story about food banks running short and the number of Food Stamp applications increasing 2 years ago. Of course, the number was still in the single-digit (5-6%) range.

Better chart here. UE is fairly flat thur March 2008 then start climbing. No matter how they massage the numbers there is no way "the average worker" has been "Unemployed 27 months" as CNN claimed.
