DeMint backs off criticism of Obama
The Hill ^ | 1/4/2010 | Jordan Fabian

After saying the president was "downplaying" security, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) now says Barack Obama is using "the right approach" in fighting terror.

Appearing on MSNBC Monday morning, DeMint still stressed that the administration needed to buckle down further in the war on terror. The conservative senator has been one of the White House's chief critics amid the fallout of the failed Christmas Day airline bombing.

“Instead of focusing on the blame right now, the president seems to be on the right approach," he said on MSNBC. "He’s recognizing we’ve got a terror problem. What he is doing in Yemen is good.”

DeMint said Sunday on CNN that Obama is too "distracted by other things" to deal seriously with national security issues. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee member was one of the first to criticize the White House for what he deemed an insufficient response to the attempted attack by a 23-year-old Nigerian national.

One of the president's other main critics, House Intelligence Committee ranking member Pete Hoekstra (R-Mich.), also indicated that he is now satisfied with the administration's response to the failed attack.

They probably wren’t threatened at all. They probably figured out we’re losing more than we’re gaining by pointing out how badly the Bamster failed this one.

Security is the main focus for the job of the Pres__ent....Other things should be lower on the priority list.

What we have here is ... a couple of weak guys that folded in the clutch.

If no one stands up, of course , Obama will continue to advance his agenda at rapid escalation until there is no party but HIS.

No joke. Tyranny is ruling. Rolling ahead at breakneck speed. Too little action, too late action is totally ineffectual.

God help us in our day, in Jesus name, amen.

Why would any Conservative appear on MSNBC at any time?

I agree. As for Obama now taking the right approach, even a stopped clock is right twice a day. We’ll see if he can stay on track - which is doubtful.

Of course, when one of our most reliable conservatives says something we don’t like it can only be because he/she had been ‘threatened’.

I will not support DeMint in any way. We do not have any conservatives that I can see actually hold to their position. Seems they all copy John McCain and agree in the end. Then praise what is happening.

Sickening. Very discouraging for our future. Are we accepting all of Obama’s communist, Marxist, socialist, programs that is hamstringing our every action, as they take all our monies, through the coming increases in taxation. Then suddenly it is too late to resist.

Yes, I am cynical ...with reason.

God help us in our day, in Jesus name, You are our only hope, please forgive us our blindness, and grant us mercy, we cry out for help in this trying time, do not let our enemies flourish or control Your people. Show us the way that You would have us go. Amen. PRAY. " When we are not praying, we are sinning, when we are praying, we are not sinning." Spurgeon

Too say anything good about Obama is a false light. It only feeds evil.

Eh, it was on a cable news program so I'd imagine it can be readily verified.

Absolutely. Always do some relection polling rather than do what’s in the nation’s best interest. It’s the safe way to keep your seat in DC. Just make sure you get a chair with a spine. You'll need one.

They shouldn't back off. The Nigerian terrorist has a lawyer. He should be being interrogated until we're satisfied we know everything he knows. The jihadis have much more planned for us.

From, Extremists Online Discussed Blowing Up Planes Weeks Before Northwest Flight 253 Attempt , on the second page:

......................"Internet Forums Advocated Use of Biological Toxins
From those details and level of expertise displayed Aviran says he knew the threats were serious and sent a warning to his company's clients worldwide which include in his words, "Western governmental agencies."

At the same time he claims there have also been terrifying online exchanges about using aerosols filled with biological agents to attack planes.

Two individuals, both well-known members of extremist forums, according to Aviran, have been leading these discussions which include the use of Botulinum toxin. Botulinum is one of the deadliest substances known to mankind.

The two individuals have been participating in Islamic Internet forums for several years and are known to the intelligence gatherers at Terrogence.

These are not kids talking about using biological agents to attack planes. These are two very sophisticated participants who are experts in chemical and biological agents."

According to Aviran, his company monitors 10 main extremist Web sites. The sites use sophisticated security and screening methods to prevent infiltration by Western spy agencies."..................
