What an idiot. The risk isn’t the 24x he was told it was, therefore, there is no additional risk at all such as to say smoking does not cause lung cancer, yet, he quotes data that says smoking causes 8x as much cancer.
LOL, I survived a ruptured brain aneurysm in 2009, 30 days after losing my savings in the stock market crash. Maybe I should have taken up smoking instead of saving for retirement : )
I find such comments to be ridiculous, just like the ones printed in ads by a local hospital touting how 'quitting smoking' would reduce your chances of dying.
Nuts, I thought everyone bought the farm sooner or later anyway.
I recently had a skin cancer removed (along with a slice of my face), and was counseled to avoid sun exposure. Only the problem is that that particular part of my face has been under thick sideburn or beard for most of the time since puberty...the rest of my (significantly more exposed) face (thankfully) has a clean bill of health.
Sure, the media get much of the blame, but when alleged scientists make such inane statements, it calls their credibility into question.
As the saying goes - “Your mileage may vary.”
I hope you were able to make a full recovery from your aneurism, and that you are able to stay out of the poorhouse after your investment losses. I too have far less money than I should due to investment mistakes. On the other hand, I long ago realized that happiness comes from being satisfied with where you are and who you are, not from what could have been.
