A Democrat could call a black person a n-word to his or her face, and the black “leaders” would still support the Democrat.

In 2007 Julie Myers , acting head of ICE , was almost driven out of DC because she gave an award at a Halloween party for ICE employees to a man wearing skin bronzer, dreadlocks and a prison uniform.
The award recipient was put on leave and I believe the House held hearings on the incident.
Myers and the costume wearer should have had “ Ds “ after their names .

This is just like the time during the Clinton/Lewinsky affair when the National Organization for Women was exposed for all to see as nothing more than another liberal shill organization. Much to the dismay of people who were truly concerned about the status of women in society, the NOW leadership enthusiastically backed the proposition that a "powerful liberal man" such as Bill Clinton was entitled to have a few gropes and even a violent rape or two without being called to account. The lesson there was that the "feminist movement" was just another liberal sham and fraud, as their allegiance was to lining their own pockets through a leftist power grab instead of to "promoting the interests of women" (if there even can be such a thing).
Now we have the spectacle of so-called black leaders rushing to the defense of a "powerful liberal man" such as Harry Reid, as his inconvenient and supposedly "racially-offensive" statements are given a pass in a way that would never have been done for a Marge Schott, a Don Imus, or a Jimmy the Greek.
The upshot of this is that even people who haven't been paying attention should be able to realize that the "racial grievance industry" is just another liberal sham and fraud, as their allegiance is to lining their own pockets through a leftist power grab instead of "promoting the interests of black people" (if there even can be such a thing).

The reason why the lefties and the progressives defend Reid compared to Lott is because Reid was not a member or supporter of the council of white citizens and thats why Reid is excused for his language.
I find Reid disgusting, but Reid is likely going to get a free pass.

It’s absolute hypocrisy.
I’m in the health club early this morning watching The Today Show (which I would NEVER have on my home TV) and it was a frigging joke to watch three Democrat hacks in a row defend Reid. Of course, there was no counter argument. “No story here, move on,” is the message of the day if you’re a Democrat and/or a black Democrat (what’s that ...98%?).
