Reid apologizes again By: Manu Raju January 11, 2010 02:42 PM EST
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid on Monday admitted that he could have used a better choice of words in discussing Barack Obamas skin color, and he used his first public comments since the controversy emerged over the weekend to promote his record on civil rights.
Reid, in a nationally televised press conference from Apex, Nev., said that hes been making and receiving a flurry of phone calls from leaders in the civil rights community and that he feels good about people reaching out.
Ive apologized to the president, Ive apologized to everyone that [can hear] the sound of my voice that I could have used a better choice of words, Reid acknowledged. Ill continue to do my work for the African American community.
Reid then before highlighted his record as a young civil rights leader in Nevada and promoting the first African American to the bench on the federal judiciary. And he said that Interior Secretary Ken Salazar called him Sunday night and insisted that Reid has done more for diversity in the United States senate than all the rest of the people put together.
And he suggested he had no plans to step aside as Republicans have demanded. We have a lot of work to do, and I will continue to do my very best for the people of the state of Nevada and this country.
Reid said that Attorney General Eric Holder, who is black, would be willing to make public statements on his behalf, and cited a slew of other African-American leaders hes spoken to.

The completely despicable Reid was calling Republicans “Raaaaaacist” only one month ago for opposing the corrupt Obama regime.
I like to know what Reid thinks is so wrong with a “Negro Dialect”. You would think that Negro’s would be asking the same question.
Some apologist editorialist earlier today used “truth” as the excuse for why Harry can’t be criticized for his statements.
I’m sure she’d give any conservative the same defense... not.
Yeah, but I don't have to if I don't want to.... ;0)
Somebody needs to make a video using Garrett Morris/Julian Bond’s ‘Black Perspective’ skit from season 1 of Saturday Night Live, where he talks about light-skinned blacks being smarter than dark-skinned blacks, and intercut it with Harry Reid interview clips where he expresses agreement...
“Reid said that Attorney General Eric Holder, who is black, would be willing to make public statements on his behalf, and cited a slew of other African-American leaders hes spoken to.”
This post-racial stuff is getting hilariouser and hilariouser.
Exactly, man. Harry, please don’t stop.
A better choice of words?
A sensible person would have thought the best choice of words regarding one’s skin color would be nothing at all.
Also, what does that say about Reid as a person when he chooses AG Eric Holder as someone to vouch for him? That putrifying practitioner of judicial abortion should be standing right next to Reid in the unemployment line (read: edge of tall cliff.)
Can't they do their own work?
Too funny X 10.
Well hell, it's the only thing he has ever said that was true!
Everyone can disabuse themselves of the notion that the media is not completely in the tank for the Democrats. The press knew before the election that Reid had commented upon Obama’s light skin color and ability to not sound “Negro” and that Bill Clinton Suggested that Obama could have been serving him coffee. So was the press withholding that information because they wanted to sell it in a book later or because they were in the tank for the Democrat Party? Both distasteful reasons.
As to Reid insinuating that Obama was palatable to the voting public (Democrat voters) only because of Obama’s light skin and ability to not sound Negro on demand, Reid should not be fired, I would leave it to individual Black Americans to mentally place a white pointy hood over Harry’s head every time they see him. As far as Clinton is concerned, well Bubba was just being Bubba and there is more to come about him.
In my opinion, what Reid said was not racist, nor was it meant to be. He got caught using a word that was no longer considered PC. The hypocracy is that the Dems always - always get a pass on stuff like this.
We all know that had a Republican or a conservative said this it would be cause for riots in the streets until the “offender” had been fired (or jailed). The mainstream media and talking heads would be having giggle fits reporting this every day.
That’s the unbelievable crime in this whole stupid episode. Reid will not resign, nor be allowed to resign, because he is too important to the Dem “cause”. He will be given the “not a racist” stamp of of approval by the poverty pimp elites and celebrity African Americans who matter (I use that term with sarcism).
Bingo.
(oops.)
Remember Reid was talking about DemocRAT voters.
This may be obvious to everyone else and I maybe am just slow to the game, but I figured something out.
These democrats are deep, deep racists and they are embarrassed by it (but not enough to stop), which is why they do all of these loony polices to “help” the minorities...but if you get them alone, the always slip up and show their true colors.
That is one amazing comment.
