Research 2000 Poll: Coakley And Brown Tied 48%-48% (Brown Was Behind 8)
Talking Points Memo ^ | January 18, 2010 | Eric Kleefeld

Posted on 01/18/2010 10:03:09 AM PST by icwhatudo

The new Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll of the Massachusetts special Senate election has the race as a tie between Democrat Martha Coakley and Republican Scott Brown -- the best independent poll result that Coakley has had in the last few days.

A Research 2000 poll from last week, which was commissioned by the local liberal blog Blue Mass Group, had Coakley with a stronger lead of 49%-41%.

Daily Kos's Laura Clawson writes: "As we keep saying, this one comes down to GOTV."

"the best independent poll result that Coakley has had in the last few days."

I wouldn't call a poll sponsored by Dailykos exactly independent. But if they can't even get Coakley in the lead, that's good news for sure...

I just called Barney Frank’s Newton, MA office to remind him that his seat is vulnerable and WHO do you think answered the phone?

That’s right.

I invite you to call HIM now.

On Oct. 28, 2009, Research 2000 had Christie up 1% over Corzine (42%-41%). Christie won by 4.

So they weren’t totally off the mark in that race.

The internals of that poll show independent voters planning on voter for Brown by a 2-1 margin.

I’ve been making calls for Brown since Monday. My tally has Brown far ahead of Coakley.

WOW “Daily Kos/Research 2000” cannot even pull it out for Coakley.

She must be really hurting if they have them even.

HEADS UP, FREEPERS!! I have found many of the banner ad links to the Scott Brown for US Senate website may have been sabotaged. When you click on one of the “infected” links you are directed to https (not http) www.brownforussenate.com which results in a security certificate error and failure to connect.

ALL of these links were correct and functioning yesterday.

Sabotage?

The new Daily Kos/Research 2000 poll....

If we, Free Republic, commissioned a poll, I wouldn't buy it.

Same goes with Daily Kom's.

The sample doesn’t look representative to me:

Demographics
MEN 242 48%
WOMEN 258 52%
DEMOCRATS 195 39%
REPUBLICANS 97 19%
INDEPENDENTS/OTHER 208 42%
WHITE 451 90%
BLACK 19 4%
HISPANIC 16 3%
OTHER 14 3%
18-29 70 14%
30-44 130 26%
45-59 221 44%
60+ 79 16%
BOSTON 274 55%
SOUTHEAST 111 22%
WEST/CENTRAL 115 23%

I think likeliness of voting will swing harder toward our demographics.

I wish I had your confidence. They seem to be playing the "fat cat bankers" card over and over again and there are so many who just fall into line with the usual class envy nonsense.

“Daily Kos added a favorability question, and there Coakley has a slight edge over Brown, with 58% favorable-31% unfavorable to his 51%-30%.”

Nope, don’t buy it.

From the latest PPP (D) poll

“Q2 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion
of Scott Brown? If favorable, press 1. If
unfavorable, press 2. If you’re not sure, press
3.
Favorable............................................56%
Unfavorable..........................................37%
Not Sure..............................................7%

Q3 Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion
of Martha Coakley? If favorable, press 1. If
unfavorable, press 2. If you’re not sure, press
3.
Favorable............................................44%
Unfavorable..........................................51%
Not Sure..............................................6%

Q6 Do you support or oppose President Obama’s
health care plan, or do you not have an
opinion? If you support it, press 1. If you
oppose it, press 2. If you don’t have an opinion,
press 3.

Support..............................................40%
Oppose...............................................48%
No Opinion...........................................12%”

It oversamples Democrats and undersamples Independents. If you correct for it, Brown leads.
