Republican Scott Browns upset win in Massachusetts Tuesday threatened to derail any hopes of passing a health reform bill this year, as the White House and Democratic leaders faced growing resistance from rank-and-file members to pressing ahead with a bill following the Bay State backlash.
Democratic leaders insisted they planned to press ahead with health reform, and met late into Tuesday night in Speaker Nancy Pelosis office. But they made no decisions about how to proceed, now that Brown has swept away the Democrats filibuster-proof 60-vote majority in the Senate.
Their options are few, and extremely complex, mostly involving legislative tactics that would be difficult to pull off in the best of circumstances, let alone at a time when members are worried they could be the next Martha Coakley a seeming Democratic shoo-in laid low, in part, by health reform.
And already Tuesday night, Democrats were being forced to come to terms with the prospect that their decades-long goal of health reform might once again fall short, despite getting closer to becoming law than ever before.
Pelosi insisted Democrats could still make it happen. "We will get the job done. I am confident of that. I have always been confident of that," she told reporters as she left the Capitol at 11:30 p.m.
"Massachusetts has health care and so the rest of the country would like to have that too," Pelosi said, referring to the states health care program. "So we don't [think] a state that already has health care should determine whether the rest of the country should."

she is crazy in truest sense of the word..
Yep. She is the leader of the idiots parade; the Grand Dame of cluelessness; Pelosi is the failed Puba of the dimocRat party. ( a party that vanished after President Truman).
She is evil.
Oh, she is TEXTBOOK nuts.
Perhaps in worse shape than `lil bammy.
If Blue Dog Dems are really moderate, and want to be re-elected in November, they will start a palace revolt to get Nancy Pelosi to step down as Speaker. If she stays, the Dems will lose 50-60 seats in the House in November, because she will help lead the drive to the left for the rest of the year.
Can we possibly replace her next?
I was thinking that too. I would not be surprised if some Dims promised not to vote for her as speaker in their reelection campaign.
She is precious. And psychotic and paranoid.
Actually she’s just a waste of space this country can’t afford.
You really want to do that and wreck a chance of severely crippling the rat party? She would be the perfect face on the rat party when they swirl down the toilet.
Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said. "We're not doing this to aggravate people."
Of course the day is young.
I say let Peloser drown as many fellow 'Rats as possible. I extremely doubt that a Democrat majority under any leadership will do anything of significance that will help the country.
The most stupid remark:
“... we will never get this economy under any kind of control until we get health care costs under control,” Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) said.”
Cart-before-horse...
The GOP needs to file that quote away and use it in October when unemployment is still in double-digits.
The skin on her head is so tight that it’s actually constricting blood flow to her brain.
Cheers!
What brain?
She is evil. She is also psychotic.
