Dems 'Hysterical' as Obama Retreats on Health
Fox News ^ | January 21, 2010

The president said he would be open to scaling back health reform legislation in order to salvage it.

President Barack Obama suggested he's open to Congress passing a scaled-back health-care bill, potentially sacrificing much of his signature policy initiative as chaos engulfed Capitol Hill Wednesday.

Top Democrats said they would press ahead despite growing doubts among rank-and-file members that they can pass a bill they've been laboring over for nearly a year. A host of ideas offered in recent days have lost favor.

One day after losing their filibuster-proof Senate majority in a Massachusetts special election, exhausted Senate Democrats looked downtrodden as they filed into their weekly lunch in a second-floor room at the Capitol. "People are hysterical right now," said one Senate aide.

Party members clashed openly over what to do next. Sen. Max Baucus, a top Senate Democrat, appeared to throw cold water on a bill that would focus only on stiffer insurance regulations. Rep. Charles Rangel, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, scotched another idea, a complicated parliamentary maneuver to usher a bill quickly to the president's desk.

In an interview with ABC News, President Obama said he would be open to scaling back the legislation in order to salvage it. "I would advise that we try to move quickly to coalesce around those elements in the package that people agree on," Obama said. White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer said later the president would prefer Congress to pass the comprehensive package, and hasn't given up on that option.

A pared-down bill could still restrict insurance companies

The House is going to pass the Senate Bill and Obama will sign it.

No they won't.

The Senate version would never pass the House.

I remember before the 1994 Republican revolution that Newt and others bought ad space in TV Guide (then one of the most widely circulated periodicals, not sure about now) and published the Contract with America.

The RNC should be doing that with proposals like the one you mentioned. Printed periodicals are hurting now and ad rates are low. Put a printed catchy ad (maybe a photo like a line in a DMV but for health care) and state their proposals.

That ad will be picked up by the news as it is something novel. It will get talked about and it will bypass the usual news networks.

I’m not sure how much it would cost to buy some infomercial space or some ads on some other cable channels but they need to get their message out.

Every politician with an ‘R’ after his name should be able to articulate the Republican position in an interview, a town-hall, or a stump speech and be able to back it up with facts. In most professions, those who succeed do their homework. Republicans should be the most informed out there and should be able to shoot holes in opposition arguments.

All they need are 218 fanatics.

The House Bill barely passed, they don't have that many Democrats who want to be ousted in the next election.

Not kidding. Morris thinks Pelosi can muster 218 to go on a one way mission. Alinski rules dictate this approach. I amsure they will try.

I saw the Morris speaking on O'Reilly, but Morris confused the House Bill (which may have had more votes if needed) but not the Senate Bill, which doesn't have the anti-abortion amendment in it.

Stupack stated he doubted the Senate version could get 100 votes.

They had 220 for the House version. This is the Senate version. And the Massachusetts election has them scared. They can’t lose 3 votes.

They already have two less, the lone Republican who voted for it stated he won't vote for the Senate version.

And one of the Democrats who voted for it left the Congress (or died) and hasn't been replaced.

I think that these Democrats are fanatical enough to Committ Obamacide for the dear leader. They know they are going down in November. They will probably go over the cliff arm in arm for the cause.

Obama just threw his party under the bus! He sawed off Queen Pelosi and Dingy Harry's branches off under him. He pulled the rug out from Obamacare and left the Democratic leadership twisting naked in the wind! Now Democrats have to ask themselves why they would put in all this work, all this pain only to have a President of their own party walk away from the central signature item on his agenda? The Rats will be too busy tearing each other apart to focus their fire on the GOP.

Now, if only they focus their anger on the cause, namely Hussein...

I disagree.

Even many of the extreme Leftists of the Democrats don't like the Senate version (no public option).

Remember even Howard Dean called for defeating this Bill.

I advise the Libs to build an altar and burn a sacrifice to their gods (Michelle and Barack......

*** I hear Rahm Emanuel has volunteered to be the sacrificial POS......as long as he can wear his tutu. ***

Well, since Rahm is 'Flaming', that would make sense :-)

FYI, Rahm's been outed as part of the 'IL Gay Brigade'.
It's a not so well kept secret in DC that he's 'that way'.

Obama will promise to “fix” it later. He can give enough cover for them to jump.

My idea of legislative bipartisanship is 533 staunch conservatives and two token liberals: one to shine their shoes, empty the trash and serve them coffee; and one to slap around for fun.

No Morris is saying the House will pass the Senate Bill as is with 218 votes. It is their last stand. He thinks there are enough willing to go over the cliff. I have to agree. I do think there are enough fanatics to do it.

I believe that also. I hope they do. If they do the November elections will make 1994 look like a weenie roast.

The Dems will be destroyed.

Thought I'd read some rats were jumping ship from the House, no? I'd really be surprised if they'd try it, though I hope they attempt it. That would crush their nefarious syndicate of a party for a long time.

Scale back health reform to a program that rationally helps those without insurance - and leave the rest of us alone. That just might work...

What frightens me a bit is that there’s always some RINO D!ckheads who will get all moist about Obama’s “new tone” or some such crap and rush to show how bipartisan they are to grab some attention for themselves. McCain, Gramnesty top my list.

“Beats going on to cap and tax, comprehensive immigration reform, and a thousand other inane expensive, ideas I guess.”

Yeah, the inane expensive ideas out of which socialist repression would come. Sure beats that! Can you say gridlock (and then REVERSE COURSE)!

Is that right? Uck! He’s on TV all the time, just not answering our questions but telepromturing us...
