Haiti Aid Halted for Hillary Photo Ops
Socialistworker.org ^ | January 25, 2010 | Jesse Hagopian

Posted on 01/25/2010 7:46:31 PM PST by zoomdownrotorswhirring

EVERYTHING YOU need to know about the U.S. aid effort to assist Haiti in the wake of the catastrophic earthquake can be summed up by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's touchdown in Port-au-Prince on Saturday, January 16: they shut down the airport for three hours surrounding her arrival for "security" reasons, which meant that no aid flights could come in during those critical hours.

If there was one day when the Haitian people needed aid to flow all day long, that was the day, because the people trapped under the rubble on Tuesday evening couldn't survive much beyond Saturday without water.

Defenders of Clinton will say that her disimpassioned, monotone, photo-op speech was needed to draw attention to the plight of the Haitians. But no one north of hell can defend her next move: according to airport personnel that I spoke to during my recent evacuation from Haiti, she paralyzed the airport later that same day to have a new outfit flown in from the Dominican Republic.

While in Haiti, she should have called attention to the growing eco-disaster there. With all of the bottled water being imported, there is no recycling of the plastic bottles.

Sheesh. Consider the publication, and draw your own conclusions — don’t attack the poor poster. Nobody’s claiming the Socialist Worker is The New York Times.

I have checked out your site which is apparently what your mission in posting to FR was all about.

When I read the boo hoo story about Mumia Abu Jamal I call major BS.

This disgusting human being murdered a Philadelphia police officer almost 30 years ago. The case has been litigated ad nauseum since then and, guess what? He is GUILTY of MURDER.

Time to put this murderer to death ASAP.

And you need to find a new sight to hawk your SocialistWorkers.org. BS.

Thanks,
Bye

Thank you for the warm welcome. I should have posted something much less interesting, from a publication everyone has already read?

Haitians would be unimpressed. If you’ve seen one dictator in a pantsuit, you’ve seen them all.

Exactly the reason that Bush did not go charging down to NOLA after Katrina.

It’s NOT my site, and I think Mumia Abu Jamal is reprehensible and disgusting. I think Socialist Worker is a dodgy publication.

Do you beat up all “newbies” who don’t post stories from the same conservative-approved publications we all read? Again: Sheesh.

I am a lifelong conservative and Republican and will match my bona fides against yours any day.

Have you lurked for any length of time on FR? I would say not, as most FR posters would know that socialistworkers.org is probably not a very reputable source for news.

It is my opinion that your post was intended solely as a slam against our Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, but cleverly veiled as a slam against the USA, in order to “match your bona fides” with the people on FR. That’s exactly what I would expect from a site called “socialistworkers.org”.

Granted, she is not the most popular person on FR, but it seems to me your post is only intended to draw the ire of the Hilary bashers. And further, to bash the humanitarian efforts of the United States to give urgent aid to the people of Haiti. As I’m sure you are aware, if you have been reading the news at all, we have come under recent fire for not doing enough to help the dire humanitarian efforts in Haiti.

Considering that the United States of America has just earmarked upwards of $180 million to Haiti, not to mention the deploying of almost 20,000 of our finest troops, plus the Carl Vinson and her sailors, plus the Bataan and her sailors and Marines, plus the hospital ship Comfort, etc., etc, etc, to help alleviate their suffering, your post seems petty.

So please, don’t come on to FR today, and post your BS about a pantsuit controversy from a BS site, that is pure BS, and expect anyone here to take your seriously. Hundreds of thousands of real people have died, or been seriously injured in a disastrous earthquake in Haiti and you post crap about a pansuit. My God. I’m reeling at your crassness.

And, you dare to quibble about a “conservative approved” publication??? You, sir, (or madam) are an ass!

Several other articles on Haiti/US at source:

The humanitarian myth:
With U.S. forces obstructing aid and beefing up "security" while Haitians die, no one should accept that the U.S. is motivated by "humanitarianism."

The siege of Haiti
A ring of U.S. warships on patrol off Haiti's coast to stop desperate people from trying to flee is a stark symbol of Washington's attitude toward refugees.

Haiti under the eagle:
The U.S. media's coverage of the earthquake in Haiti leaves out any mention of an older disaster--the long and bloody record of U.S. intervention.

Conservative "compassion":
Gauging from the response of U.S. conservatives, Haiti needs a police force rather than aid to help it emerge from its devastation.

And just in case you're interested, the latest on MUMIA ABU-JAMAL

As well, "You'll find left-wing and Marxist analyses of important questions of the day from a broad range of voices on the left."

>>It is my opinion that your post was intended solely as a slam against our Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton, but cleverly veiled as a slam against the USA…”

Slam against the USA? Are you serious? The article shows how the left puts politics above helping Haitians. Re-read that last sentence so you don’t miss anything.

>>Granted, she is not the most popular person on FR, but it seems to me your post is only intended to draw the ire of the Hilary bashers. And further, to bash the humanitarian efforts of the United States to give urgent aid to the people of Haiti.<<

Bash the humanitarian efforts? If I wanted to do that, what would I care about somebody holding up relief from landing at a one-runway airport? If you cared at all about Haitians, you would be alarmed at someone holding up relief efforts for a photo-op, but you can’t seem to grasp this central point.

>>As I’m sure you are aware, if you have been reading the news at all, we have come under recent fire for not doing enough to help the dire humanitarian efforts in Haiti.<<

Really, you lead with hominem attacks too much. I subscribe to three newspaper and scan/read dozens of online news sources. Your haughty presumptuousness that people are not as well-read as you makes you look silly and a bit insecure.

>>Considering that the United States of America has just earmarked upwards of $180 million to Haiti…[SNIP -— Post goes on like this]…etc., etc, etc, to help alleviate their suffering, your post seems petty.<<

No, no, no, no. How is pointing out that relief efforts may have been held up for a cheap photo-op petty? The United States is the most generous country on the planet. We agree on that.

>>So please, don’t come on to FR today, and post your BS about a pantsuit controversy from a BS site, that is pure BS, and expect anyone here to take your seriously.<<

It’s not a “pantsuit controversy.” The fact that a political stunt may have held up relief effort deserves more attention, does it not?

>>Hundreds of thousands of real people have died, or been seriously injured in a disastrous earthquake in Haiti and you post crap about a pansuit. My God. I’m reeling at your crassness.<<

Again, it’s not about the pantsuit. It’s about holding up relief efforts. Where is the crassness in that? You make unwarranted assumptions and are off an running. Your imagination bears you along.

>>And, you dare to quibble about a “conservative approved” publication??? You, sir, (or madam) are an ass!<<

Again with the insults. You remind me on an old Soviet babushka in an apartment lobby scolding everyone who comes along.
